Do you need to run in New Octavia VRS?

Featured Replies

I have got a new Vrs On Order due to be delivered VERY shortly and wondered if the engine gearbox etc had to be run in for say 500 miles. I understand that any new tyres last a bit longer if they are run in for about 100 miles. Any help much appreciated?

Yes. The manufacturer's recommended running in instructions for the engine are in my post in the thread below. The Owner's Manual also recommends running in new tyres by driving carefully during the first 60 miles, and also mentions that new brake pads have to bed down and do not have their ideal friction during the first 120 miles or so.

It's a mixture of advice for petrol and diesel engines (which have to be run in differently) but should get you started. You could also check out honestjohn.co.uk for advice on how to run in engines, I'm using the advice there coupled with the instructions in my owners guide.

Tyres will not achieve their optimum grip for the first 50 to 100 miles so you should excercise caution but they don't need running in as such.

IIRC....manual says not to use more that 3/4 of max revs for 1k miles......still equate sto rough 100mph.

I think most people here would suggest giving it blast every now and then and not to drive at a constant rev level or, let the engine labour (too high a gear for the engine speed).

In reality it's probably only 2/3 weeks of careful(ish) driving at say 250 miles a week so no great hardship really.

Best just to be safe and follow the guidelines as it such a short period of time in relation to how long you will have the car.

Therafter you can go about embarrassing the less fortunate ;)

Enjoy!
