Battery charging....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i wish to charge my battery up sometime soon as it seems to be getting a little flat.

If i disconnect the battery to do so will i need to get the throttle body reset? or can i just connect it back up and carry on?

My charger has an output of 3.6amps, could i charge the battery with this without disconnecting the battery?

Thanks for the help,

Shaun.

Your throttle body will be unaffected.

I don't bother disconnecting my battery whilst charging. I've had lots of flat batteries and keep my car on a charger in cold-ish weather (-5 & below).

Ah thats good to know, i've always avoided disconnecting it as i've heard that the throttle body would need reseting.

Last year i used a motorbike trickle charger to charge it (output of 0.6A) and it took about 65 hours to top it up.

I'll give it a crack with my 3.6A charger when i get home.

Thanks for the reply,

Shaun.

Throttle body will self adapt over a few driving cycles.

If you do decide to disconnect the battery, when you reconnect it turn the ignition on, & you'll hear a whistling sound from the throttle body, just wait for it to stop before starting the engine.

In recent years I have never bothered to disconnect the battery when charging (but that was on the GFs old shed of a 1.9D Felicia  ). I once charged my Octavia and likewise I did not bother to disconnect the battery - who wants to faff about resetting the clock, radio stations, etc!
