Lights out on lower dashboard cluster

Featured Replies

I have a small problem with the lighting on three controls on my lower dash board controls.

The controls are the Temperature level, air speed and where air flow comes out of. The problem is the backlighing on these controls no longer works. Makes it difficult at night as I never remember the order in which controls are.

I have a problem with the rear passenger side window regulator. The drivers side window regulator has been replaced. I didnt notice if the problem happenend when these were replaced. Could these be related.

Also I have noticed the interior light in the glove box doesnt work either.

I dont know where to start to be honest.

Any advice would be appreciatted.

I have a skoda octavia GLX tdi April 2000.

thanks

paul

Glove box light - check for power, iirc it should have power at the switch when the sidelights are on. I assume you have checked the bulb. Has it ever worked? If not maybe it has been unplugged from behind the glove box.

Lower dash lights - sorry, no idea have climatronic. Check the dash light fuse maybe. However not sure if the Octy is the same, but my parents mk3 Astra has these lights on all the time, so it munches through the bulbs.

Passenger side wind regu - what is the problem? Possibly a broken wire between the door and the car, water ingress into the connector block....

Fuse F3 (5A) feeds all the internal lights

Blower lights on a std manual control are all powered by one build, if you pull the fan speed knob off (just pulls straight out) there's one small bulb, replace this and they will all come back on as the rest are powered by a fibre optic type thing.

fuse ok. Have pulled the air speed off. I can see the wee bulb but how the hell do I get at it. It looks very akward.

I will search round to see if I can find out.

Long nose pliers, it just pulls straight out, be careful not to smash the bulb though!

Yeah, it is. I used a cheap pair of pliers from those little kits you can get from service stations, it isn't in very tight. Honest!

Thanks alot. I managed to get the offending bulb out, with long nose pliers. I really wouldnt have attempted this is if wasnt for your kind instructions. Thanks alot for the help. I must admit I was sure the bulb was going to smash with the pliers but it came out as described.

No probs, the first time I did it on my old octavia I pulled apart all the dash and removed the heater switch box before I realised that all I had to do was pull that knob off!

Glad I could help!
