Battery Compatible?

Featured Replies

Can anyone comment? I can buy it for £35 with 18 month warranty still remaining (18 months old).

The battery is;

640A(EN) 70Ah

and apparently the OEM skoda one is;

61Ah 330A Din (??)

540A AN?SAE

So in theory it is better then the OEM battery?

It has a higher capacity than the OEM one, so that shouldn't be a problem. The two main issues are 1)are the terminals on the right corners? and 2) will it fit in the battery tray?

From the diagram on the Eurocarparts site the terminals do appear to be the correct way round for an Octy, and the length 278mm & width 175mm is just at the max size a standard Octavia battery tray can take. Its height at 175mm is a bit smaller than the size recommended for an Octavia 2.0 diesel but that shouldn't matter too much as long as the battery leads still reach ok.

....actually if I try my reg number on that site it shows both the 096 and 100 as being suitable for the 2.0 diesel Octy. The 100 is just a bit smaller capacity than the 096 (which mine has), but both are higher capacity than the OEM battery.

As i mentioned in another post, my OEM one is 70ah 340A DIN/ 570A EN. anyone know why they fit a bigger one in some cars?

VAG are probably one of the worst for this, but depending on what options, they will some times fit a different battery (rule of thumb, if you have all the electrical extras you'll typically have the larger battery etc..) However with all things VAG - there are always exceptions - Like on the Friday afternoon when the work experience guy is sorting the batteries, or when a supplier delivers late.

I always recommend measuring your battery, and double checking the one listed matches - From then on the aH rating [Amps per hour - The power the battery can supply non-stop over a period] and the CCA [Cold Cranking Amps - The power the battery has on tap to start the vehicle] is purley advisory (typically the better batteries will have higher ratings) however there are many 'budget' brands which claim massive CCAs / aHs to appear good - when they can't actually cope with half of that!

Moral of the story - Measure first, and stick with a Bosch or Exide unit, with a guarantee you can trust!

My car came with auto lights so i'm guessing that maybe why they fitted a bigger one on mine. I got one of those electronic testers that reads the CCA. Mine is rated at 570 and is down to 416 so it's failing.

Yeah, the options give a rough idea.

if its down to 416 thats about a 20% drop - i'd say its on its last legs :doh:

I think my battery has died as the car isn't starting today and it feels like it's been struggling for power starting over the last couple of months so it looks like a Bosch S4 from Eurocarparts is a good option for the next day delivery assuming the battery is reasonably easy to fit. However there's two different batteries specified on the site with a slight difference, once seems to be higher than the other:

Bosch Battery (S4 Battery 096 4 Year Guarantee)

Bosch Battery (S4 Battery 100 4 Year Guarantee)

The second one appears physically higher, slightly lower Ah and is a few pounds more so the first one seems the obvious choice unless there's any obvious reason why not to.

No reason at all, the 096 is what most suppliers seem to recommend for the diesel Octavia anyway. Mine has the 096 and it fits perfectly.

Thanks for the confirmation, I'd looked around and the 96 battery seemed to be the one to go for but appreciate hearing from someone who has fitted one. I tried out the eurocarparts live chat which was a waste of time.

Thanks for the reply, to be fair it's more a pet annoyance when people just give you a generic answer back rather than admitting they don't know - when I asked about the two different batteries I've mentioned above, I detailed the only differences I could see and had asked if there was anything I was missing, the reply was 'check the terminal configuration' which as I'd said was the same. My battery and wiper arrived today so happy anyway aside from needing a socket wrench for the battery and not being able to work out how to fit the rear wiper but hopefully it's just something I'm doing wrong.

John

I was shocked when i bought my car and saw the size of the battery - it looks like it is off a 1 litre......its about 2/3rds the size of the one in my Bora PD130 :o
