jerky hesitant 1.8t?

Featured Replies

Hi being new to skodas and especially the 1.8t i'm not sure what to expect from the engine but think its not quite right. Basically it revs to around 4k which for a petrol never mind a turbo petrol I think is pretty poor. Don't get me wrong it will physically rev beyond this but 4k seems its limit in terms of noise and power. beyond this it gets noisy and unpleasant without any extra power although is smooth everywhere , well , when its not jerking.

It jerks and jumps sometimes when accelerating normally as if misfiring but just generally feels flat. As said in another post of mine the air bag light came on the other day and yesterday the engine management light came on also But the car remains the same as the day I got it 3 weeks ago with the same symptoms above.

The car has done aboot 115K miles has FSH (last 3 not skoda) apparently had the timing belt done at 90K ish.

Also should the car tick near the front of the car around the radiator (light/quiet ticking from outside with bonnet down) Injectors, or water pump? :(

I'm getting an OBDII this week and have downloaded the software to diagnose the lights but just interested in peoples views on their 1.8t's . I know mine has 4x4 so this will flaten the response but coming from a diesel I was expecting a rev happy car, all I seem to be getting is a flat guuzzler. :'(

only a scan will reveal the issue, car should pull all the way to 6.5k

could be numerous things, most likely one of these

plugs

coil packs

coolant temperature sensor

MAF

boost leak

lambda sensor

ticking is normal - it is the carbon canister working

cheers mate, I notice yours is the VRS though, so not sure if you mean yours revs to 6.5k or mine. or should they all behave similar. I suppose i'll just need to go routing around tomorrow to see if I can see any obvious issues underneath. Is there a usual place for boost leaks i'e; a specific hose that splits etc?

It should still rev to 6500 rpm what ever variant it is of 1.8t engine. Saying that I have just bought a 2001 golf gti 1.8 turbo for the mrs and that seems really flat compared to my vrs. But it still revs clean and smooth all the way. Good luck with it and hopefully you find the problem

It is only 150bhp, but as said it should pull strong to 6.5k.

What year is the car?

Its a 51 plate with 115000 on it But had it hooked up to VCDS today and cleared two fault codes and all seems well again, reving and pulling in all the right places. But need to look at the throttle body to see if cleaning required as all hoses seem fairly new and shiny and no obvious leaks (yet)
