Forge Induction kit

Featured Replies

Having had a re-map, I feel the car would benefit from an induction kit.

I'm not a fan of any loud induction kits, but would prefer one that does the job intended without the fuss.

I had a Graham Goode Racing induction kit a while back and it was a little 'boomy' when at motorway speed :dull:

Of course, I understand that they do sound different to stock, so wondered if anyone had fitted the Forge kit and if so, your thoughts ?

Cheers

I have the forge intake. Its not loud at all tbh from inside the car. Its just looks scruffy imo. I know have a light weight battery which frees alot of room in the engine bay so i can have a much more efficient and larger intake fitted without having to worry about space. I was going to take the forge intake off today but its freezing, so I left it until tomorrow when it'll come off and go up for sale.

Personally I would pick up the ITG Maxogen intake instead although its more expensive. Why? ITG develop their own filter materials have motorsport credential including F1 and solely dwal with filtration so you know your in good hands. Forge on the other hand buy in their filters from external sources so stick a forge plaque on it and sell it on at a premium.

Not in any rush to have a new one mocked up yet though as I'm away nearly all of next yearso will get itsorted amongst many other things after. I might still just keep tge forge and get a new silicone hose to rotate the filter 90°

More intake options here >>here<<

I'd say that intake-kits are overrated, IF you want some extra noise then to for it.

I for myself didn't notice any difference between stock intake and the forge intake (except it was UK only so it unscrewed the lid to the brakefluid-canister!).

sent from the real deal

I dont fully agree with that intake kits are over rated,

Ive personally witnessed big gains and losses from using various intakes on independant rollers and with VCDS logs by measuring the Mass Air Flow(MAF) with VCDS.

For instance on my Octavia vRS i got to try 4 different intakes. I initially had the carbonio scoop c/w with pipercross panel filter which made the grand total of no difference to Hp or MAF g/s.

I then had the Code Red intake fitted which on a before and after run at a company without removing it from the rollers made a 9hp gain and a 7 grams/second in MAF

I then removed that intake and sold it, ran the stock intake, with notably less response and top end power. This made way for an ITG Maxogen intake which netted me a 18grams/second over the stock intake and showed as 17hp before and after run over the stock iirc. ( Using the Ross tech VCDS formulae for Bhp = MAF/0.81 should have resulted in a 22hp gain)(This was the gain at Stage 2+ though, which will be larger than a gain experienced at stage 1)

I then decided to strip my car in preparation for selling it. I was given a pipercross Venom intake for free, so for sh!ts and giggles i tried that and logged the difference and it was worse than the stock intake by ALOT. It lost 22grams/second which equates to nearly 27hp. I thought there must be a mistake so i then swapped back to stock to find everything was back to normal, i repeated this twice with the same result. Basically because the filter was so small, the pipework was small and came with no heatshield it was losing the car power.

So whilst some intakes arent very good and lose power or dont provide gains, others make very good gains.

Hurdys ITG Maxogen for instance netted him 16Hp and he really noticed the difference. Im sure he'll be able to back it up with logs.

Reference the Forge, i can see where you are coming from. I never really noticed a huge difference at all. Maybe i was expecting to much after the experience of my ITG Maxogen on my Octy vRS which was monumentally better.

Im yet to measure the difference between stock and forge with VCDS but it is on my to do list. I have had it dyno'd before fitting and after, and whilst they were both done on dynodynamics rollers, they were at different tuners so not directly comparable.

If they are to be believed though the Forge gained me 3Hp but lost me around 30lbft of torque. I plan on having it dyno'd stock and Forge after xmas on the same rollers same day to see if its performing so i guess we'll find out.

Anyway i was having a look at the battery today in the car, wandering how im going to get the massive formed plastic connector c/w attached relays and fuse boxes from the std OEM battery to the Braille one. *Think i can get it to work once i lay the braille on its side otherwise we might hit a little difficulty.

Whilst there i thought id have the forge intake off and give it a good shake out since its been on for 3.5k now. The turbo side was clean and dry as a whistle. The otherside as you would expect was filled with crap, including 3 decapitated wasps amongst other things.

They come with quite alot of oil though, which makes me wonder why people moan about the ITG filter being dodgy because you have to oil it periodically. Looks like the same deal for the forge which is a paper/cotton gauze element.

Nice amount of surface area on it though, thanks to the inverted section, i expected it to be alot smaller for some reason. Intrigued to find out how the size of it compares to the ITG.

TBH I think that filter looks quite small given the power output of the vRS, I was expecting it to be quite a bit bigger. I`ve seen bigger filter elements offered as replacements for the 1.2 TSi stock filter!

i used a pipercross viper and just made my own intake layout.

significantly loudrr when giving it car a beasting but not over the top when poodling around.
