Rear LED Number plate bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi guys, one of my rear number plate bulbs has gone. I was wanting to replace if with some LED ones, will ones out of a BMW fit and if so which ones?

Cheers guys

You need 38mm festoon.

I think the oem BMW led's are a different setup.

Not Sure if the LED Bulbs might trigger the bulb failure system, i fitted standard LED sidelight bulbs, and it triggered the bulb failure on the dash (too lower wattage), so i brought the 'canbus' versions of the LED bulbs (see video). worked perfect, bright etc, never triggered any warnings.

BUT the resistors on them run very hot, and that started melting the headlight reflector, so out they come, so take care which ones you buy

normal LED sidelight bulbs work fine on mine........no warnings

Same here, No warnings.

Bulb out warning only works on circuits that take more than 8 amps, so number plate lights won't be effected. Of course LED bulbs won't be E marked, so technically a pedantic plod could nick you.

I've had two sets on mine one set were dog and started to fail after 1 long trip only cheap one's found a better set and there still going £7 each i think off ebay.

Have a set of 3 LED bulbs in mine, no light warning and really have updated the look

I'm looking at getting some of these, any useful lInks?

I've had 2 sets and each set started flickering and failed after about 4 months use !

Has anyone actually found led bulbs that last ?

  • 6 months later...

thanks

I got mine from Halfords. Been in there over a year and no bulb warning light. And its on a 05 vrs.
