Skoda vRS H7 headlight bulb upgrade

Featured Replies

After reading a few other threads i have now ordered a pair of H7 Osram nightbreaker plus bulbs for my dipped beam, i just wanted to know if people are changing the high beam bulb also or leaving them alone and concentrating on the dipped beam bulb.

(i have a 2010 vRS 1.4TSi)

Am i right in thinking that the high beam is also a H7 bulb and i could use the Osram nightbreaker plus H7 bulbs i fitted for my dipped beam also for my high beam?

Cheers

Dipped and main are the same bulb on the vRS, so no need for any more bulbs.

The switch to full beam is controlled by a shutter mechanism, a bit like an old-style SLR camera.

You can hear the movement of the shutter when flicking to full beam at times.

Thanks for the info guys, but can someone explain this.

When on dipped beam the light comes from the part of the headlight unit with the (magnifying dome looking thingy) when i put high beam on it comes from a stand alone bulb that is clearly visible within the headlight unit, suggesting 2 bulbs not 1?

Also their is a little blueish bulb sitting near the visible H7 bulb, but it seems not to do anything at all, i cannot get it to light up no matter what i do? :wonder:

Gaz you have a 2010/11 VRS with the silver headlights. The other posters are 2011/12 VRS with Black headlights.

The 2010/2011's have 2 H7's in each head light One for dip and one for main. they also have an unused sidelight bulb.

Personaly I upgraded both sets of H7's and also sorted the alignment of the dip beam.

I've put Osram Nightbreakers into my vRS.

An improvement over the standard bulbs but way-off the Factory Fit Xenons on my MK1 vRS. Shame they didn't offer them on the MK2.

Brilliant, i for one did not realise there were 2 different headlight combinations for the new vRS, makes sense now as i thought to myself "am i missing something here" i better buy some more bulbs then as i only ordered 1 set and once fitted i am going to visit an MOT station and get them to adjust my lights to the maximum permissible level.

And an unused side light bulb? where's the sense in that, lol.

Cheers

So when the DRL modules that are the only option on UK spec cars, are not fitted and fogs are fitted instead.

I see (no pun intended) for the european market.

Sorry if I confused the issue, didn't realise there was a difference between the 2010 and 2011 models.

Got to wonder why they changed the design yet still used a double bulb unit!

The 2010/2011 cars have a projector H7 and a reflector with 2 bulbs in it an H7 (main Beam)and a side light bulb.

The 2011/2012 cars have a projector H7 and a side light bulb.

My vRS (2011/2012) has a single H7 in each headlight, the sidelight is a dimmed DRL (for reduced glare). The inner hole in the headlight units are fitted with dummy blue lights that have wires at the back but do nothing. They have fitted a bulb for cosmetic reasons rather than redesigning the unit. Maybe the dummy bulb is a side light bulb, but it does nothing other than fill a hole (well and get me to waste an age of my time trying all sorts of combinations of light settings to get it to work!!!!).

Yes but in diffrent countries the DRL's are optional and can be replaced with fog lights. This would require the sidelight bulb in the head light cluster. The headlight cluster will be a common part with the wiring changed to suit the spec of car.

Fair point.
