VAg com code 17705?

Featured Replies

Hi all I have tried to do my homework and do the legwork for this code (17705 -Pressure drop between turbo and throttle Valve (check D.v.))

It seems to be a general code meaning alot of things from what I can see but I'll tell my story see if a keen eye can narrow the field for me.

The back ground to this has been the car I bought 3 weeks ago with no warning lights on. few days ago the airbag light came on, next day the engine light came on without any noticeable difference to the way it drives. Although it feels quite flat, especially coming from a diesel to this. I expected crisper throttle response and more of a rev happy engine which it dosen't and seems to drink at an alarming rate which I was expecting and has a 'hick-up' when puilling away at low revs which can be too jerky in traffic sometimes causing the car to jump (kangaroo petrol).

Anyhoo, got my obd11 and VAg.com through the post today and went to investigate. I didn't have alot of time and was bewildered by all the options on vag.com so just done a general scan which gave the above code. tried to clear it. but lights remain on. BUT weirdly the car felt so much better rev happy pulled well everywhere and good throttle response but after driving around today it seems to have went back to being flat again.

Any Ideas, like I say I'm new to Vag-com and its only the lite unregistered version.

Is that correct $99 to get the registered version on the Ross- Tech site??

Or is there another way?

Basically check all your vac lines

So there are two under the inlet manifold

The one on top of the DV

Underneath the engine cover (breather pipes)

Try them first.

17705/P1297/004759 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

Possible Symptoms

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON

Power Loss

Possible Causes

Leaking Hoses and/or Pipes between Components

Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) faulty

Diverter Valve faulty

Throttle Body dirty

Possible Solutions

Check Hoses and Pipes between Components

Check / Replace Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)

Check / Replace Diverter Valve

Check / Clean Throttle Body

Perform Throttle Body Alignment

Special Notes

Did anyone install an extra (wrong) dump valve?

When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve

If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

Cheers for that DBP much appreciated. I take it that lot came from Skoda delearship software?

Just weird that it semed to correct itself i.e. after doing a diagnostic the car ran great but slowly went back to flat again within 30 miles or so :wonder:

Is there a talk through on here for VAG.COM as the functions seem quite alien at the moment. I used to use formidable with an f-super for my mondeo and it seemed really straight forward without loosing any fuctions in comparison. :S

That was all from Ross techs website. You can use their free software but you just have to search through the online dictionary to find the fault codes.

Well because there boost lines there probably wasn't that much boost in the system for the first 30 mins so there wasn't much of an issue until it built up again

. I think It's really easy to use. No one has ever shown me how to use it but I can navigate with no issues.

17705 causes the car to go into limp mode which is why the car feels flat. If you recycle the ignition it comes out of limp. Loads of possible causes of 17705 it's a pita to track down sometimes. First thing to do is check all the boost & vacuum pipework as it's all prone to splitting. Do a throttle body clean as the jerkinees you describe when pulling away is classic symptom of a clogged up throttle body. Do an engine scan with vag com & clear any codes.

Yes you can register with Ross Tech, which will open some extra features on vag com.

Check uk-mkivs.net site out for 17705 code there's loads of stuff about it.

Thanks for info, just wondering what would be best to clean throttle body with, brake cleaner, petrol? I read somewhere about leaving it connected so as to operate the flap to open etc. any other issues?

STP or Wynns Carb/fuel injection cleaner in a spray can and yes, leave it plugged in. I did a guide in the general guides section.

I found the engine management light on mine when one of the large hoses to the intercooler popped off so I would check that's secure and not split as well as checking all the small vac pipes

Unipart traffic film remover for the win. Strips back any oil with no issues. I've spent ages before doing It with care cleaner when that done it in minutes.

cheers erm...chicken-eyebrow and DBP and merry crimbo.

Managed to clear codes incl.airbag one too. took for a blast up and down m/way and all seems good. but after the crimbo stuff i'll clean the TB to be safe as no doubt it the lights came on for a reason so won't stay off for long :'(

Also noticed a light coating of mayo on under the oil filler cap and thought o sh"* head gsket? but after the blast up and down looked at it again now just black oily stuff (must do an oil change and service me thinks). Just normal cold start condensation with oil or am I looking at cylinder head gasket?

I doubt its HG I've never heard of one going on the 1.8t engine (that's not to say they never go) its probably just condensation. Merry xmas.

Could be condensation just keep an eye on it. Is there any sign of mayo on the dipstick?

no mayo on the dipstick just dirty oil, like I said I think its time for a service even though I've just bought it, then I know its done. Have a good one chaps.

I always use genuine VAG oil, air, fuel filters & high quality oil Mobil 1 etc. It's also worth sticking some Forte engine flush through as well to avoid the gunged up oil pick up strainer problem.

If it was the head gasket, you would know. I come from a rover k series family so we know Haha.

Just take the engine cover off and find the oil spray. I've found through personal experience when a boost pipe pops it mists oil out. So it gives you an idea of where It's coming from.
