Front wheel hub removal

Featured Replies

Hey all, and merry christmas!

As i have no life, and am waiting for the dinner to be cooked, i thought id ask a quick question.

My left side bearing is whining badly now, i have the bearing/hub, but need to know how i remove the hub?

Ive gotten so far as removing the brake disk, caliper and carrier, and the 36mm bihex bolt in the middle, but the little bugger wont move! do i need a hub removal tool, or just alot of brute force and ignorance?

Thanks guys

The hub is connected to the bottom of the suspension strut aswell as the bottom arm ball joint.

Be careful not to dammage the thread on the end of the shaft like i did ¬_¬

Rubber mallet is prob best

If you want to knock the shaft out just use a deep 17mm socket that goes over the thread and knocks it out on the other part.

If your changing the bearing it needs either to be pressed out of the carrier, if your doing this be very carefully when pressing it back in that you press on the bearing not the drive flange so you don't damage the bearing by pressing in on the bearing race or you should use the proper puller kit (it's how we do it).

A new 36mm nut should be used on the drive shaft and it's torqued to 50nm and 45 degrees.

Thanks for the reply guys, i think il leave it for a pro to do as it sounds like if i try it i will break something! (Im very heavy handed and always resort to a hammer if things dont move!)
