Computer monitor cable problem

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm writing this in a green screen

After having our desktop PC fixed, I have plugged the monitor cable back in and the screen has got a greeny tinge to it. We had this problem before, but managed to wobble the connection around to fix it, but no amount of wobbling fixes it now.

So today we went out and purchased a new monitor cable from PC world. Plugged it in, and no more green tinge!

But the screen is so blurry it makes ready impossible and makes my eyes and head go funny.

I have no idea what to do next.

Cheers

What resolution are you using, and what model monitor?

A cheap monitor cable can cause 'ringing' which gives you a ghosting effect.

Also, how long is the cable?

Right, the new cable is a Logik 3metre (we should have spent £5 more and got the Belkin, but times are hard :D )

The monitor is a 2005 Dell, but where would I find the resolution?

The computer is a HP dc 7600 (same sort of year)

The old monitor cable with the green tinge problem is the one that came with the Dell when new (not sure how long, but it is shorter than the new one)

any mate or neighbor with a monitor you can try? or do you have another pc or laptop you could connect to the monitor

also is this onboard graphics or a separate card with more than 1 output

Ok, I grabbed a laptop, and after experimenting I have concluded:

- The old cable works fine

- the new cable is faulty/doesn't work properly

- There is some sort of fault with the socket on the back of the computer (I've found I can get it to work by putting the plug in at a slight angle and not doing up the twiddly bits)

Thanks for all your help

so can you add/change the gfx card?

if your unsure how to its really easy and you can be walked through it if needed

I was going to upgrade the graphics card, but I'm not going to bother as will be getting a new machine shortly..
