Bought a Roomster

Featured Replies

Hello,

I originally joined in 2009 with the intention of buying a Superb and asked a few questions about them. Well it never materialized and I bought a Fiat Multipla which was nice but cold! The heater was definitely designed for balmy Mediterranean evenings! Other than that it was a really nice motor to drive with the 115 diesel. The last few freezing winters put paid to the love affair though when the windscreen wouldn't defrost after 1/2 hour driving, the handbrake froze on and the gearchange cables started to freeze up!

I chopped it in for a Grand Scenic with the 1.5 diesel. What a major major mistake that was. The engine was nice and super frugal but I had that many electrical probs it went after nine months in part ex for a Kia Carens diesel auto 55 plate. To be honest this has been a brilliant car. The only downside being poor (worse than expected) fuel consumption and a rather noisy interior with quite a few buzzes and rattles. I suppose what you have to remember is this is a relatively cheap Asian car. Reliability wise it's great. As I do a lot of busy town driving it does between 24-29mpg depending on traffic. On a run highish 30's.

With the price of diesel going forever skywards and me retiring in 2014 I decided I needed something that was cheaper to tax and run. I was looking at either a Roomy or Berlingo. Much as I like Citroens, Berlingos hold their price and a lot haven't got aircon and also have mega miles. Over Christmas I noticed a low mileage Roomy 3 diesel 07 plate in my price range (£5200) with 25k on the clock on the net. I popped in to the dealers today and we did all the figures but when they checked on the car (group stock 200 miles away) it was sold! They had another car onsite which I had a drive in but the screen price was £6700 and I didn't want to pay anywhere near that. Well they must have been desperate for the sale because they massaged all the figures and we shook on £4800 cash with my car in part ex! In this price was two years mot's and servicing and 6 months road tax. The car is a 58 plate Roomy 2 diesel with 21k on the clock and it looks spotless! I couldn't really walk away from that and my son in law who also bought his car from there last April was gobsmacked (I was too but just didn't show it  ). I think it might be ex Motability as its registered disabled and they have to change that so I pick it up next week sometime.

Cheers,

Dave.

Welcome to Briskoda, Dave. I hope you enjoy your Roomster. :)

Thanks Denis for the welcome. I owned a couple of Skoda's over the years. An Estelle 105(?) which was an absolute cracking car and a Favorite. Also a good car but interior trim was flimsy and I had to put 50psi in the front tyres so I could steer it!

Dave.
