Help

I,ve got a 2.0fsi elegance on order as a company car and i'm a bit concerned of reports of unreliability. I would have had a 140tdi but it was to dear on the lease quote. i drove an A3 with the 2.0fsi and thought it superb,i cover 25 to 30 k a year and consumption not realy a problem.Elegance toys a must so Ambiente with extras not a practical choice. any comments please

There are posts in this forum on 1.6 FSI vs other lumps at least one of which includes comments about the need for Shell Optimax or similar to get the benefits of the FSI technology and the need to drive them hard and fast to avoid problems - one 1.6 FSI reported as needing a full decoke at 50k IIRC

bp superunleaded ok? as nearest petrol station to home has this.

I guess so, if its 98 RON. If its like Optimax theres a price premium. I've read somewhere FSIs are designed for 100 RON but don't think thats available on UK forecourts.

I wouldn't worry, If you do 30k a year then the car will not get coked up. I'm sure it will be a really nice car anyway. The vRS I have until yesterday was supposed to run on Optimax but run fine on normal 95 ron, all be it a few ponies down.

I got one nothing but trouble with it cant wait to px it

I've had a 2.0FSI Elegance hatch since June 2005. It hasn't given any real reliability troubles, even the noisy door seals have quietened since putting the Lakeland lube on them.

It runs fine on 95, 97 and 99. I only use Tesco 99 now as it is local, I do low mileage, and the car loves it. We don't seem to have any 98 around here.

I usually px at end of warranty but, all other things being equal, this one stays for as long as it behaves.

Especially nice on long runs, motorways etc. Snicking gears in and out of 4, 5, and 6 it seems to perform way out of its supposed class and power - maybe the others just aren't trying!!!

p.s. In any case, it is being superseded by the 1.8TFSI

I have had a 2.0 fsi elegance since July and so far no problems and I am very pleased with it. Covered almost 7k so far all on 95RON

Had a 2.0FSI Elegance for the last 9 months. So far no problems other than dealer fit front parking sensors. If you want these, get them factory fitted! Dealer not as good as the Toyota dealers I have experienced in the past. Car runs better on 97 Ron upwards, with better fuel consumption. Very comfortable, nice toys, handles well.

Be interesting to hear what trouble you had?

There aren't many issues with the 2.0FSI. Just give it a good roasting on a regular basis and you'll be fine.

The 2.0FSI is a good engine.

Downside is needing higher ROM fuel, but can easily be run on 95. If you intend to run solely on 95, the I was recommended by someone to run the first 1k on the 100ron stuff to help bed in the engine a little.

Little shocked tho you havent actualy tested the car you got the firm to order!

That's pretty much true of any car, though, isn't it? My dad always used to say that you should run a car down the motorway in 3rd gear every now and again, and that was 20 years ago in a Vauxhall Viva (with only four gears - blast from the past!). Both my wife's Leon FR and my old Primera GT both sound and go much better after a couple of trips to the redline. Apparently the oil pressure at max rpm opens up the finer capillaries, or something, in addition to the decoking. Dunno, I'm not a mechanic.

That said, when I pick up my Octy II vRS next week, I'm going to be itching to bounce it off the limiter every chance I get :)

Yes but it's more important on an FSI lump as any buildup in the combustion chamber can cause big problems in some circumstances. A sustained (law obiding) period of keeping it in a lower gear than usual should keep things in check.

This all reminds me of a few months ago coming home from Heathrow on the M25. I had a senior moment and left it in 5th for miles. For a while I couldn't work out why it was going so well! And the oddest thing was that according to the computer display, the mpg was hardly suffering at all.

BTW, all this was at a road speed of hmmm plus a bit more.

I have had a 2.0 FSI L&K since July and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. It's my dream car.

I've got a '55 2.0FSI 4x4 with 24,000 miles although only had it eight weeks or so. Coming from diesels I had a tendency to not rev it too much (partly out of habit and partly because of the greater consumption). Anyway, it's apparent that this motor prefers to have the revs up a bit and, to be honest, it's a lot more pleasurable drive that way and good fun too..:D

I've been putting either BP Ultimate or V Power in it simply because the manual (and petrol cap for that matter) recommend 98RON. Who am I to argue?

So far it's been great - best car I've ever had

It is a good engine and even the TFSI needs to be revvedddd :)

i have one, no probs here, i think the only problem i have is fuel going stale, but when its filled back up with fresh v power it goes well!!
