Interior Light / Door Open Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a 2008 Skoda Fabia HTP 70. Wonder if anybody can help with the following problem.

Last night I noticed my interior light had come on. The car has not been used since last Saturday and I know that the interior light has not been on since then. I think it must have switched itself on sometime during yesterday. It was set to automatic and has been working fine. The car was locked and the Scorpion Alarm system seemed to be functioning okay (blue light on steering column flashing and red light on door on). Weather here as been very wet and windy.

I unlocked the car using the remote to check out the interior light. However it would not switch off automatically so I had to switch it off totally. Then when I went to lock the car using the remote control it would not lock. The blue light on the steering column came on but the doors did not lock. I had to manually lock the car using the keys. As it was late I thought I would have another look this morning.

I tried again this morning to lock the car using the remote - no joy (will only lock using the key), but the remote does open the car doors and disable the alarm. The interior light is still not working on auto and I also noticed now that when I switch the ignition on the door open light is illuminated and will not go out. Also when I went to start the car this morning the battery was flat so we had to use jump leads. Took the car for a drive and the door open warning light remained on even though all the doors (including boot) are securely closed.

We had a look under the bonnet and couldn't see anything obvious but we did hear a high pitched intermittant whining noise when the engine was switched off (could this be something to do with the alarm system).

Does anybody have any ideas if the problem is related to the alarm system, the interior light, door closure, weather etc. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo, sounds to me like one of your door shut 'plungers'/sensors is broken. Seems as though the car thinks one of your doors is open.

I'm still awaiting my fabia though, so can't help you any more than that I'm afraid!

Hi,

You have a fault on one the door closed switches, the switches are part of door lock assemby, one for each door.

The only way to find out which door is causing the problem is either with vcds or get the dealer to check with their diagnostic equipment.

Hi

VCDS is Ross Tech's diagnostic system for all vag cars, the advantage is with fabia's you can use vcds lite which is a free download from ross tech and a cable from Gendan for less than £20, and check many things including door switches.( Laptop required)Have a look at the ross tech or gendan websites for more information.

Hi,

VCDS lite should be fine on a 2008 fabia, a check on the Ross Tech website will show you what functions are available with the unregistered version, but you will have very good information for basic fault finding.

Tony

Thanks for posting the info on the VCDS thing!
