Hard starting on Fabia 1.9 Sdi 2001

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

My 1.9Sdi Fabia from 2001 is proving hard to start. Sometimes takes 5 or so tries.

100k miles on clock.

First try, no firing at all

2 try, perhaps one chug, then nothing.

Thereafter, a stuttering start, then stalls.

Eventually kicks into life.

Once running seems fine, no apparent loss of power.

Yet other times, starts just fine first time.

Fuel filter is only about 5000 miles old.

Battery is fine and glowpug light comes on and goes out as usual.

Would really appreciate any guidance on this.

Thanks folks!

You would be better asking in the relevant Fabia section.

I would suspect at that mileage your glow plugs are getting past it , check them out first , as a quick check try turning ignition on until glow light goes out 3 times before you actually try to start the engine

Thanks DeeCee, I'll give that a try and will report back.
