1.4 MPi with sludge in coolant

UPDATE...

 

After a few months, a little sludge appeared in the coolant which I put down to being residue not cleaned out of the system fully as it didm;t get any worse until last week.

 

We had been having issues with the coolant light coming on which prompted me to investigate. I kept an eye on the coolant sludge over about 2 months and it was only in the last week that it suddenly got worse.

 

The expansion tank has a little sludge in in (on the cap) and a drop in the coolant, but it has turned a darker brown (with a hint of pink) and stained the expansion tank.

 

No sign of coolant in the oil though. Nothing on the oil filler cap or on the dipstick.

 

I've a new coolant tank on order along with G13 coolant. I'm going to do a oil & filter change along with the coolant reservoir and coolant flush / change.

 

Aside form the obvious, does anyone have any thoughts on this development or the process I should be doing (e.g. should I use something like Wynn's engine oil leak stop?)

    Head gaskets are very common place but an easy DIY job. See if it's got a modified gasket on it anyhow, identified by temac or a T written on the right hand front corner as you look at the engine on

    Update. Eight months on and two days work and it's done (almost). It did look as though the head gasket was leaking and some of the manifold gaskets had been blowing a little. It seems like a broke

    I found Normfest CC442 radiator flush far superior. Euro Car Parts used to stock it. Seems it's available here http://www.type911sh...d=894&aid=4232 and to be honest the price is about the same as
