Respray

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Doea anyone know somewhere that I can get a standard VRS spoiler sprayed at a reasonable price? Have just been to local Skoda dealer and they have quoted me

Thats roughly the price my dealer quoted me when I enquired about a roof spoiler for the fab!

Something to do with metallic being tricky to match and they would have to blend it in with the rest of the paintwork.

Maybe a local specialist would do it cheaper?

if your feeling brave, why not have a go yourself first. if it all goes wrong let a paintshop do it, all its cost you is a few cans of spray paint.

Lightly sand the the original, till the paint has a mat finish.

Apply several coats of primer.

Sand till smooth

Apply lots of coats of metallic bronze, leave to dry for a few days

Lightly sand with the finest grade wet/dry you can get.

Apply several coats of laquer, leave to dry for a few more days

Affix to car, and after a few weeks give it a good polish.

I agree with Manny.

It's not too difficult; as with most things it's all in the preparation.

I'd check on what primer you need though; depends on what the spoiler it made of and whether it's going to flex or not.

I'd also use the finest wet 'n dry paper in between colour coats again for a smooth finish.

Finally, taken your time and allow the paint to thoroughly dry as I assume you don't have one of them industrial heaters (or a paint shop oven).

Have fun.

Cheers.

Adrian.

i'd have a go to.... bear in mind the colour match wont be as difficult on gold as it would be on solid red or met blue... the gold is more shimmery in the light...

Shouldn't imagine it's hard to do it yourself, but if you don't fancy that I know a bodyshop

in Stockport that is pretty straight talking (at least, more so than a dealer). Could be worth

going there for a quote - let me know if you want their details.

Thanks guys,

Think I may have a go myself, and will blame you all if it goes horribly wrong, Paul will have to arrange time to pick it up off you.

Wish me luck fella's

Could you spend the time taken in doing it yourself better? If you could spend the time doing overtime and earn enough (plus spare) to have it done for you professionally, surely that's a better option?

I'm all for doing stuff yourself, but if it takes many hours over several weeks to do something that a pro can do in a few days for you...

This site has prices

for fancy car paint, but it's all in price per litre, so you'd have

to work out how many litres you'd need. Or phone a bodyshop,

but I think you'd be looking at 1500-3000 depending on car

size and finish...

some nice paint jobs on there Rob... whens yours being done?:D

 ... go on Rob - would definitely enhance the "stealth" side of a Skoda :p

Lol...nooooo, Nick called me a muppet when I hinted at suggesting it...starting saying I should've

stuck with the Micra... :D

Besides which, would probably cost more than the car's worth...

Rob.

all you need is paint stripper food colouring and a sponge.. oh and 6 tubs of stationary box glitter.

Like I said...more than the car's worth... ;)

Rob.
