Bubbling paint work

Featured Replies

What a day I'm having with this car, first woke up to find windows down and inside of car soaking then once repairing that I find my both rear quarter panels have tiny bubbles all over it, like fish eye's.

Anyone know why these have appeared and how to get rid without a re-spray??

That's real bad luck :( how big are these bubbles in the paintwork? Any pictures to show this? Is it rusting at all?

No mate, no rust anywhere on the car, it's like you've sprayed it with a lite mist of water, except it won't wipe off.

I'll try and take a pic now.

(Edit) to dark for pic, did try.

Has it been sprayed before? Sounds like contaminants under the paint

Yea, 6 months ago though.

That and the previous post sound like the reason for the bubbling. The reason why I asked about rust is because my previous car began to bubble due to surface rust on the panel :(

I could be wrong but the only way I can think of fixing it is to smooth down and spray again :S surely the sprayers from last time will do it for free if the last job was poor :(

Hope he will, he's a mate, but I know for a fact he will try and blame me for waxing my car to much, but surely that's his fault for not cleaning the panels tidy??

Waxing you car will not cause bubbling! Could be due to spraying in dusty conditions or not cleaning panels beforehand. It's worth asking him.

Fish eyes are normally caused by silicone, and as such it means your mate's not done the best job of preparing the car for paint.

Will machining it back get rid??

Where the bubbles are is where the paint was blown in.

I meant waxing to much before getting sprayed, I don't think panels were cleaned enough before spray.

Nope, as they'll be under the base coat. It's a respray job, I'm afraid!

As already mentioned silicones and oil deposits cause this, it is indeed micro blistering, like Babs said you need panels repainting.

Can be caused by not prepping panels properly and not cleaning the guns out also.
