Wheel is leaking, assistance required.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Recently purchased a set of wheels with tyres 2nd hand, they're all straight and true however a couple seems to have slow leaks in them, I've check the tyre and theres no damage on them and the leak seems to be coming from where the tyre meets the wheel.

I've done a little google on the matter and it seems the wheel could be corroded on the inside? So apparently the solution to this is take the wheel off, sand/wire brush and refit it again. Is there any tips or advisories before trying this? I don't have a tyre removing tool though.. Is it not worth the manual labour and best give it to a tyre place to get it sorted? Thanks.

Don'y attempt yourself unless you have a good high capacity compressor to re inflate tyre and are fully competant with tyre changing, also it is not worth doing yourself.

Bit of bead sealer before refitting tyre should do it.

I had the same problemwith one of my fronts on my fabia. Took it to the local tyre shop and the guy sorted it with a wire brush on the tyre rim seal and it was sorted. He took tyre off to do it. It cost me £10.

Take it to a Tyre fitters and get them to do it .

I have a manual tyre changer and large compressor in my garage but its not worth doing on alloys as they are easy to damage.
