High level brake lights

Featured Replies

Hi

I just noticed today that the high level brake light unit (at the top edge of the tailgate) has come loose. I thought it would just push back in, but it remains loose. There are three white plastic fasteners on the unit that appear to push into holes in the inside of the metal skin of the tailgate, but they don't connect. They are held back by springs which, I presume, are to maintain a tight fit, but how do you get them to extend into the holes?

There is no access to the fasteners from inside, of course and all I can think of is that there is some sort of special tool to depress the fasteners (against their springs) until they have been engaged into the holes. Does anyone have any ideas?

I suppose that, unless there is some way of engaging the fasteners, I shall have to glue the unit in place!

A few dabs of tiger seal, never come off again.

Early ones held by 2 screws, later by plastic clips ( no date for changeover in Haynes )

Later ones need pulling from inside!

Is that better than Araldite? (I don't have any Tiger Seal!)

No. Mine are plastic clips. But how do I get to the inside? I presume I must remove the interior trim. Can you tell me how to do that without damaging it? Does it just pull off?
