Rob's Audi A4 2.0 FSI

Featured Replies

Car Details:

Age: 2004 (53 Plate)

Model: A4 2.0 FSI SE (B6)

Colour: Black

Mileage at purchase: 97,000 Miles

Previous keepers: 2

Background Information:

I wanted an Audi A4 either 1.8T or 2.0TFSI as I had read nothing but good reviews. I ended up buying an Audi A4 2.0 FSI in a drunken late night eBay moment that went a little like this:

1) Oh, an Audi A4... Click....

2) Are you sure you wish to bid? Click....

3) Congratulations you won 1 x Audi A4 2.0......

4) Oh ****.

So, the car itself is a standard Audi A4 2.0 FSI SE. It has had Full Audi Service History and should be an outstanding 150bhp *Gasp* with 5 Months Tax and 5 Months MOT. It did come with some extras but not all. The extras are listed below:

- Bose Sound Sytem.

- Electric Seats.

- Electric Windows.

- Dual Climate Control.

- Fancy Chrome around the windows.

All sounds great right?

Problems:

One day you are overtaking a car going 60mph and a very nice EPC light comes on the dash and the car itself goes into 'limp mode'. Now I'm sure many men at this point in life would agree in saying that anything going 'limp' or 'lifeless' isn't a good thing. In short, there was something wrong, the car next to me decided to brake at exactly the same time as I did trying to pull back behind leaving me close to leaving a brown mark on the seat thinking I was about to die.

I went to see a local-ish member on here - vRS Carl, who scanned my car and even made me a cup of tea. I really can't thank this man enough for his time and helping me out in my hour of need. The issues shown were:

3 Faults Found:

17479 - NOx Sensor (G295) Heater Control: Implausible Signal

P1071 - 004 - No Signal Communication

17912 - Intake Air System: Leak Detected

P1504 - 008 - Implausible Signal

17428 - Fuel Pressure Regulation: Control Range Exceeded

P1020 - 008 - Implausible Signal Intermittent

Yay?!

The Air System Leak was easy to fix however the car was getting worse and started going into 'limp mode' at 1,500rpm which wasn't helpful at the best of times.

In short, a new NOx sensor was fitted and a nice shiney new fuel pump. I also made sure a fresh service was done including Plugs, Oil change, New Oil Filter, New Air Filter, New Pollen Filter, New Coilpacks (Warrenty) and a new Fuel Filter. Cambelt is due for change at 115,000 miles.

The car is now indeed better than ever and running well.

Many thanks,

Rob.

Excellent lesson on how not to buy a car  but a great write up

I think Carl would help anyone if he was able to, he's dug me out of several holes in the past

So now you've got a black car, there's only one thing missing........

........gold bits B)

Nice. But forget the gold bits :)

I have a slight feeling that I may require a new alternator. Car seems to like putting the Battery light on/off after driving for a while.

Ah well, could be worse. *Famous last words* :smirk:

Car decided to play a nice April fool on me with the drivers side window going down. When I went to put it back up a horrible noise came from the door - Broken Window Regulator. This has now been fixed.

Mileage is now on 106,000 and I'm getting ready for the Cambelt change at Unit18 on 115,000.

Sounds familiar!
