Sick Fabia

Featured Replies

This morning the EPC light came on and the Fabia went into limp mode. Managed to get a local dealer to have a look at lunchtime and the turbo is knackered. Could be a couple of parts so they need to do some tests and I won't get her back until next week. At least I was given a base Fabia to run around in for the time being. Hats off to the dealer - saw me within a few hours and had me away in a car same day.

Oh well, hope this is the only thing to wrong whilst I have the car.

It more than likely be an actuator problem. We have bulletin info on it, looks like there maybe parts available to sort it. Before anyone panics it doesn't effect all cars, a very small amount from what I understand so your just special ;)

I'm not into the technicality of what I was told, apart from it was something to do with the turbo. When I googled the issue a number of replies were to do with the turbo along with sensors, emissions etc. This was on other VAG cars with the 1.2TSI engine. The dealer said so far they have seen one other like mine.

My EPC light came on 2 or 3 times in Dec together with limp mode which went off as soon as I switched on and off after which it ran normally.

The cure was to fit an extra shim to some valve on the turbo as it was producing too high a voltage. There is a Service bulletin on it and a software upgrade. They also did a rough running when cold software update ( which I hadnt experienced ) and most importantly a DSG update.

All in all the car is transformed! the delays and hesitations I had been complaining about have gone and in 90% of situations it seems to be in the right gear so I am only using the manual hold going up and down hill.

Mine was built late Aug 2010 and I have done 22k.

Hopefully yours will be as easy to fix as mine was

I've just experienced the same problem with my Fabia today - first thing was stalling as I was about to pull out in front of a slow bus (the bus driver was kind and didn't drive over me as I coasted to a stop with my hazards on). I stopped, turned off and everything was fine again. However, later in the same journey I had the EPC light on and warning in MaxiDot whilst the car went into limp mode. I called Skoda Assist and after plugging in to the laptop the fault was diagnosed as the shim required on the turbo actuator. Same TPI as on SJRT's helpful post back in December. Have car booked in to dealers on Monday ("never heard of that problem before squire....") - so will go armed with Skoda Assist report and a few print-outs from Briskoda - hopefully get the DSG update at the same time....

I'm glad I keep reading all the posts on this site as at least I had some idea what was going on as soon as the diagnosis came up.

SJRT - were there any issues getting the shim? - the Skoda Assist man seemed to think they might be in short supply....

Car is Sept 2010 and has around 18K miles on clock...seems to fit with others' that have experienced similar problems.

Well, all praise to the dealer who got my car back on the road today and as stated above, it was the shim. All seems to be ok but I've only driven home so not had chance to give it a real run to see if the hesitation has gone. Anyway, fixed a lot quicker than the estimated 6/7 days.

So this shim - is it a weak part or a design fault? Anyone know?

Had the same issue not long ago and had the shim fitted which touch wood has cured it. I don't think there will be too much of a wait mine went in on wed morning and had it back by friday. Skoda also provided me with a brand new seat ibiza 1.6 sport rider. Seems like it may be early versions affected mines Oct 2010 with 15,000 miles.

Not entirely sure about the new part but having a good look around the engine it just looks like a small piece of metal near the rod where the turbo is.
