boost leaks

Featured Replies

Hi there

can anyone recommend somewhere that could check my 02 VRS for boost leaks local if possible (Wakefield). My car is loud when it boosts but im stuck for finding leaks as ive looked but if its not boosting no pressure for me to find the leaks when stationary.

help would be much appreciated.

Best way to find a boost leak is to to it to a garage raise it up on the car ramp and in neutal rev it to the max revs. This is how i've found my various boost leaks over the years. Any leaks will soon show up doing this. I've had split hoses and hoses that have rubbed causing leaks all showed up by hard revs on a car ramp.

Just check the common places for them. There aren't that many. Two of the most common ones are at the front under the inlet manifold. and then the breather system attached to the rocker cover.

In the past I have found if it is a boost leak the the engine...

Runs like a bag of spanners

Drinks fuel

When you turn it off you can hear it hiss

Has it thrown up any engine management lights?

If you can scan the car.

I have to say it sounds normal. My car boosts loudly and dumps loudly as well.
