Boost pipes

Featured Replies

Car's gone in for cambelt, and the list of other jobs is building rapily.. Engine mount, Boost pipe, & lots of little things so far

The lower intercooler right-angle pipe is knackered - the lugs are shot and it's not staying put at all. Trying to source an upgrade part, but as car is not with me I cannae measure up.

What are my options? I kinda wanna replace all the pipes eventually anyway, so wouldn't mind getting a kit of all pipes if there is such a thing.

Cheers for your help. :)

Your stuck with OEM pipe due to the bayonet collar design of the intercooler and pipe. New pipe and seals and new clips, then 4 cable ties so it stays put.

Think it is an 80' angle on the bottom pipe - self tappers do the trick also (pre drill 3 slightly smaller pilot holes when pipe is attached to intercooler bottom - making sure you drill when parts are best aligned for a good seal - and use a hoover to collect any excess plastic and alloy - visible when you disconnect pipes on the 'clean up') - I may have an 80' angled pipe if you are interested. Will have to send a search party into the shed though...

I wrote a guide for replacing the upper boost pipes with uprated samco hoses and forge bayonet style couplings (here). I've also replaced the lower boost pipe using the same type of couplings, this way I've not had to drill any holes and because the couplings are solid aluminium they are less likely to wear the same as the oem pipes. I've not had any problems with this set up to date and would recommend it as it works out fairly close to the cost of replacement oem pipes.

I have SfS aluminium couplings and silicone on the intercooler bottom (all the way to the bottom end of the turbo in fact - custom made) - 80' piece came off once due to excessive bumps - so I doubled up on making it secure. The aluminium couplings are far superior to the OEMs. The horseshoe clips drop into a recess on them and the 'face' of the recess is 'square' and not as rounded as the OEM ones - hence the horseshoe clip is less likely to slide over and off.

Neat guide, thanks Mike.

So to clarify, for the hose I need to replace, am I right in thinking I'll need 2 couplers (60mm) and a samco 60mm (non reducing) 90 degree elbow hose? Or do have I spooned up the sizes? :giggle: And of course a bunch of jubilee clips, coupler clips and seals etc. Forge's site is down at the mo, but will order once I can confirm this.

Thanks guys :)

Yes two couplers and the angle plus 2 good jubilees. Call SfS - they may sell to you as 'a package'?

tps in stockport or any vw audi parts dealer will be able to order you the pipe work, i ordered the same piece your after and cost me £22
