blue smoke from exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2 litre (140bhp) Superb (2010 plate, 80k miles) which today has just started kicking out clouds and clouds of blue, oily smellng smoke from my exhaust.

I have taken it to the local dealer but they cant look at it untill tomorrow - the guy behind the desk did say that the mechanic mentoned that it sounded like it wasnt burning the diesel off.

There are NO engine management lights on and no loss of power etc

The car mainly does motorway miles - up and down to heathrow from derbyshire for example

Does anybody have any ideas or had a similar problem ?

Is it safe to drive ?

Help lolDave

.

Egr valve? (exhaust gas recirculation). Had this problem on my Mitsubishi. It was kicking out plumes of diesel soot. No warning lights on my shogun dash either. Got the valve blanked off and everything was perfect after.

Please let me know how you get on because my superb 170 elegance has done 76k and it could happen to me?

could be one off your inter-cooler pipes split this will cause this and you wont get any lights up just lots of black smoke when you put your foot down.

simple fix on most cars i had this cost £40 for new pipe.

Blue smoke is oil, Black smoke is fuel. As you have Blue smoke you have excess oil getting into the combustion chamber, there are many causes for this your dealer will be able to check. Get it seen to a.s.a.p.

Not good news by all accounts !!

according to my local dealer they arent sure what the problem is without ripping the engine apart but they tend to think i will need a new engine or turbo !

Takng it up to an indepndant tomorrow to get a second opinion so will update then.

Dave

Does sound like the turbo is leaking oil into the exhaust?

Why not just get the Skoda dealer to repair it under warranty?

Good point...if it's a 10 plate car it's got to be under 2 years old and therefore covered as warranty is not mileage limited in the first 2 years. Get it done now as with 80k on the clock you won't get a 3rd year.

I agree - really good point!!

"We're confident in the build quality of our cars, and by awarding us 'Best Manufacturer' in the Auto Express Driver Power survey for the third year running, we think our customers agree.

So not only can we give you a two year Unlimited Mileage Warranty but also a third year of Warranty up to 60,000 miles. Plus, a 12 year Body Protection Warranty on all new ŠKODAs."

Get the car back later. It needed a new turbo :(

Reason it wasn't done under warranty was a couple if things -

Servicing had been done a few k over the schedule - so that invalidated the warranty and they said I had overfilled the oil which invalidated the warranty. The first one I can accept - with the kind of driving I do - regular long distances.

The second one (overfilling oil) is utter rubbish as it hadn't been touched.

Problem is its a work machine and can't afford to argue for weeks with them until they agree or not to fix it for free

Just so you know - your Skoda dealer gets paid by Skoda UK for warranty work so they'll normally want to help you with warranty claims.

Also, how did they prove you overfilled it?
