Petrol Blue Metallic

G.K.

Recommended Posts

After just over 2 years of enjoying my Superb there is one thing that is beginning to annoy me more than the tinny door speakers and that is the colour. ROSSO BRUNELLO !!.. I like to look after my cars and enjoy washing and polishing them like most members of this forum. Although these specialist detailers do a great job I prefer to do this myself. This mucky weather does Rosso no favours and if the sun does not shine on it directly it just looks a murky brown colour, also when the sun does shine in it's direction it seems to show another obvious fine scratch probably from a tiny piece of dirt on the sponge.

The current offers from Skoda, Vat free and 2 years 0% seem like a no brainer at this point since a 6 months wait on a new one will bring me up to my 3 year change cycle.

While I was in Specialist cars in Dundee the other day they had a new Petrol blue metallic Superb elegance 170cr in the showroom which was well specced but it had cream leather which is not for me.

This colour looked great in the showroom and compared with the other colours on offer this looked the nicest. I know that paler colours will show fine scratches less but Petrol blue certainly is at the top of my list at the moment.

Any opinions out there?

Did you know that Storm Blue is back, according to the January 2012 brochure?

No, Didn't know that. Dealer gave me Nov. 2011 brochure. I will look into that next week.

Cheers.

Ah don't say that! I'm awaiting delivery of my first Skoda Superb combi in that very colour (Rosso Brunello)! After having Silver, Grey and Black for my last few cars I decided to go for something completely different this time around! Ah well, too late now! One question - I've read all the postings about varying opinions on their functionality, but do mud flaps enhance the look of the car in that colour or not? Thanks.

See for yourself:

BTW, my Rosso is as clean today as it was when I drove it out of the showroom. It takes a little effort, but it looks really great in the sun! :)

Always put mudflaps on my cars. The Superb flaps are quite small and if there is any water on the road at all the sills below the front doors are dirty after a mile!!. It would be even worse without them mind you. I suppose that I am quite fussy about keeping my car clean and frustration kicks in when the frosty weather and salty roads are here again.

Enjoy your new car when it arrives, you will love driving it.

Thanks for that. I'll get the mud flaps fitted - they'll help at least! Thanks for the good wishes - I'm really looking forward to it!

It's a 2.0TDI 140 Greenline. Interesting thing is that I went to two dealers looking for the Greenline 2.0TDI which was listed on the website, but neither of them were aware of that there was a 2.0 with a GL pack option!! Bottom line was it saved me money on VAT and moved it down to Tax Band B (here in Ireland)in comparison to standard 2.0TDI 140! The GL Pack essentially consists of "start-stop" and "spare wheel replaced with puncture repair kit".

Interesting, but what you describe isn't a GreenLine model (which only comes with a 1.6CR diesel engine) but a Green tec model. I just had a look on the Skoda.ie website to check it out. Here in the UK only the GreenLine is available. It's interesting because I wrote to Skoda UK last year asking if/when would the start/stop technology be available on models other than the GreenLine as VW had made it standard equipment on the new Passat as it gives a huge boost to your fuel economy figures. For the CR140 the combined figure changes from 52mpg to a whopping 57mpg and lowering your emissions and tax bill at the same time. Skoda UK replied that they would not be adding the start/stop technology to other models as that was what identified the GreenLine as a distinct model. It looks as though the Green tec model are manual only, which wouldn't suit me as I have a DSG on order.

Come on Skoda UK. Skoda Ireland are offering start/stop on the 1.4TSI petrol and the CR140 diesel engines. VW even have the start/stop standard on DSG models I think so it's all possible. I think car manufacturers should have a social responsibility to at least offer the technology where available. I have read that Skoda has free access to the corporate VAG parts bin so why not offer the option at least.

You're right - I stand corrected - it is a Green tec model. The third feature of Green Tec is 16" spectrum wheels. I have to say with Elegance spec level it should be very satisfying; I'm happy enough with manual too to be honest. I'd agree with all you say about why Skoda don't make the start/stop technology more widely available!

Damocar, I have just noticed where you were looking at the car.

I would not recommend Specialist cars in Dundee.

I went there with the intention of ordering a V6 with my wife and ended up leaving after being made to feel like a fool. The manager actually told me the superb was too good a car for me and should look for something cheaper! Ended up buying at Chathams Skoda Dunfermline – good experience and service/parts department have been exilent.

Hi,

I've actually placed the order with a dealer in Dublin, but having been treated the way you were I appreciate your warning! I presume business is tough enough without sales managers turning away business based on their opinion on the suitability of the car for the customer!! They must have "cheaper" stock they were trying to move on! Hope you're enjoying your Superb ... looking forward to mine in a few weeks!

Totally surprised by this. I had exactly the opposite experience with regards to both dealerships.

Getting back to the topic of my thread,, my question was answered by a trip to Birmingham and back last weekend. I passed a petrol blue Superb estate on the M6 and even though all the cars were plastered with the damp salt crud that coated motorway the blue still looked good whilst the Rosso just looked a dull "shade of brown!".

Hoping to cut a deal with "Speccy Cars" this week.

Hi Jim,

Yea when I was ordering it I couldn't see any downside to it - it saved me money versus the standard 2.0Tdi 140 and the dealer confirmed there are no modifications other than the start-stop technology (which I'm very curious to try out - I imagine it takes a little bit of getting used to!). I guess the main disadvantages is that going Green Tec you rule out the higher powered 2.0 Tdi 170 and 4x4 options.

....I have to admit starting to think about how best to get one from Ireland although at the moment I'm a bit confused by some of the other option differences.

For example I can't see any reference to 'Park Assist' in the Irish specs and I had decided to go for that.

At least the Irish site actually works, complete with 3D configurator. The UK configurator has been unavailable 'due to essential maintenance' for ages.

Hi Jim,

You'll find the "Park Assist" listed on the specification sheet under the "comfort" section of the Elegance spec.

If you get the SUK order number from your dealer, you can ring Skoda for updates. Having that number also confirms that your dealer has actually placed the order with SUK.

If your salesman says he does not know/ can not get it etc try the dealers sales admin office

I've seen a Petrol Blue Superb, it looks very nice, a good firm and distinctive colouremoticon-0148-yes.gif
