Think iv got a boost leak

Featured Replies

Iv got alot less power on boost than I did last week so I'm assuming iv a boost leak. Saying that I have no clue about the turbo side of engines as this is my first. Iv had it for about a month and like I said there's less power on boost. There's no eml on. Any ideas were to start looking.

Thanks Ross

What sort of sounds are you hearing first of all. Any whistling? Have you fault code read it?

Iv put a k&n on the car straight on the maf. When the car starts to boost you can hear a thhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound until you let off the throttle and you get the tsh from the recerc valve. When the engine is really cold just after start up its stutters slightly under load but after 40 secs it goes and if I let the car idle for a min it doesn't do it. But the car has to be stone cold for it to happen. Even if the outside temp is above 9ish degese c then it don't happen don't know if this is relatted or not.

That's not helping, it will just be sucking hot air in from the engine bay. You either need it on a pipe so the k&n filter is down in the cold air in the bumper or bin the k&n and stick with the normal airbox and panel filter.

The cold start thing you mentioned is normal, they all do this when they're cold to warm the exhaust and cat up. Just wait for a minute before driving off.

Did you unplug or disturb anything when you fitted the k&n?

To do a fault code scan on VCDS press autoscan on the main menu.

Don't think you can do an auto scan on the lite version. I do have a cold air feed to the k&n 2" pipping from the bumper to the filter. And I put a mini filter on the other pipe that comes off the airbox ( what is that btw?)

Little pipe is the secondary air intake (noisy start up) and that's still no better the k and n needs to be in the number attached to a Cai.

As stated above K&N on the MAF pipe is a real performance killer even with a cold feed. You also increase the chances of oiling up the MAF quickly.

The other pipe you mentioned is part of the secondary air intake that is only active on cold start for 60 secs or so.

You can do an autoscan with VCDS lite if it's registered with Ross Tech , but you can't clear any codes that it finds, you'd have to go to the individual modules to clear them.
