Lamp Cover? - MOT

Featured Replies

Hello,

Bit of a newby error...... i replaced the front right headlamp (H7 bulb) however i managed to snap one of the clips off of the house plastic body the lights sit in. Its almost like a kidney shaped plastic part that you need to take off before you get to the lights (to confirm its inside the engine bay). There is still one clip and it does sit in nicely (made that nice satifying clicking noise)

Do i have anything to be worried about MOT wise? A lot of people talked about the lamp housing being an issue but i think/hope this is the outer housing. I've kept the plastic bit just in case (figure some glue might work....)

On the same topic does it matter which way the light goes in at all? It looked ok but you can never be sure when it comes to an MOT....

Cheers

there are 2 holes on the top in where you can fix 2 screws and a washer. Its made to fit, I used a short wood screw.

Done it on both my sides

The bulb has cutouts in the metal that should match up to the headlamp before you secure the bulb with the metal wire clip. If they don't line up the headlamp alignment will be miles out, which in turn would be an MOT failure (although a friendly garage would probably just sort it out for you rather than fail the car on it).

Had to replace one of the covers about a year ago, due it being missing entirely (?)

It was only about a fiver from Skoda themselves IIRC.

Shouldn't effect the MOT as long as the lamp doesn't have condensation in it because the lack of cover.

Thanks guys,

Yeah there was a metal clip that i had to pinch/clip in order to get the light to stay in place, i checked both the one i replaced and the one that was working ok and everything looked identical. After i got back from work i did what could only be called a very basic test by standing in front of my car with the headlamps on and checking where the light struck my coat. Both sides looked identical level wise. So i'm hoping all is well.

Yeah i've got a friend in the council who MOTs my car and he a rather decent chap so hopefully if it is a problem he'll sort it.

Once again, thanks again guys.

Cheers

Callum
