Hazards randomly coming on

Featured Replies

Evening,

Strange thing started happening this afternoon on our 1 month old Yeti Greenline - the hazards come on for no apparent reason, and refuse to go off straight away when pressing the button in the dash. They eventually do stop, sometimes at the first press, sometimes after several. It has continued to do it - even while parked up (not promising for battery life overnight tonight!) - for the last few hours but with no logical pattern to set it off e.g. driving over bumps.

Anyone else had this?? Got a call in to Skoda and they're trying to find me a garage to take it to tomorrow morning. Was kind of hoping that I would be able to avoid garages for the first year of having this car... :-S

Apart from that, loving this car!

Found a temporary fix to this problem - wedged 2 shop loyalty cards into the edge of the grill fitting. Went up to Skoda this morning and - alas, not surprisingly - when the guy removed the cards the problem stubbornly refused to show itself. Until I was half way home, that is. Just knocked up a little video showing the problem (which will hopefully provide some amusement value too...)

Hi,

like the video; did likewise to highlight an issue that the dealer said wasn't there. Unfortunately for me they are still protesting there's no fault but have yet to explain why I cannot get this particular problematic function to work properly :S

Think with yours its most likely a loose/faulty connection or a chaffed cable and straight forward to fix :wonder:

Best of luck,

TP

Whilst not hazard light related I sympathise with your predicament.

I too am caught in-between a rock and a hard place trying to fix a fault.

Unfortunately my Skoda dealer only employs laptop technicians and parts fitters, it seems the days of employing mechanics are long gone.

"But the diagnostics show no faults sir so there is not much more we can do"

I like your idea though, taking a video like that at least proves the fault exists

Is that a fuel-related fault, and you're caught between Graham and Lloyd George?

Do you know what? I actually think it is! Poor cold starting would suggest the fuel supply, maybe I should try branded fuel or perhaps I could ask Graham's father :giggle:

My knowledge of Lloyd George is very limited but I'm guessing the Welsh link may have something to do with it!

Found what seems to be a permanent solution now - got access to the back of the hazards button by removing the tray in the top of the dash, then simply popped the switch out and reseated the connector. Nothing visibly wrong (no bare or frayed wires that I could see, nor pins bent etc.) so hopefully this will be a definitive fix. Only time will tell, I guess...!

Looks like your Dealer promotes the 'self help' approach! :giggle:

It was more by necessity that I went for the DIY approach as the dealer I went to on Saturday had only 1 salesperson in (here in France, they only work half-day Saturday, and no technical staff) and as I was off to Belgium yesterday I really didn't want to have the hazards going off all the time. That said, if I can avoid the inconvenience (and potential repercussions) of going to a garage without compromising the integrity of the car, I will, every time!
