My trip to Skoda

Featured Replies

Just got back from my dealer, I took the car in specifically to see if it has the latest ECU software as I sometimes have the misfire on start up, and sometimes when accelerating, eg, when in D and partially throttle say about 60% I mostly happens when it changes at 4-5k rpm then when it changes back to about 3.5k rpm, it will hesitate for approx 1-2 seconds then pull a lot harder.

So I took it in they had it for an hour he came to me and said he can't find a fault code I said I know that! I want the ECU checking. He said they can't it won't let him go any further because there is not fault? LOL! I said so if I came in for a service and you found it needed an update it can't be done because there is no fault? He went away again, came back and said the technicians have been told on their courses not to do any updates what so ever unless there is a fault showing!! I said so you cannot do it? No he said, but we would like to have it from cold so keep it over night and see what it does in the morning, so I said well if it misfires it still doesn't throw a fault code so your still not going to do anything are you? He said we need to listen to it an see what it's doing first.

So it's booked in for a pointless exercise on the 24th!

Whilst there I asked if there were any bulletins regarding misfires he had a good look and said no, but haven't VW and seat go one saying any misfires get ECU update and the newer spark plugs? I'm sure that I've read that on SCN

Can someone change my title lol it did say Škoda like that <

Hi mate,

I've just clocked your other thread. How does this tie in with your TMC tuning box? Could well be linked, no?

You can edit your first post title.

Just use a normal S.

Took the tuning box off and it acts exactly the same, this was my first thoughts also.

it won't let me change the title, only the text in the post?

Don't know what to suggest apart from try another dealer or phone Skoda UK? Mine seems fine. If it's really cold it is slightly lumpy off cold but once warm it's fine. No hesitation or misfire

Perhaps something in the install/uninstall? Be worth re-checking all the airclips, electrical connections.

A good rule to follow when upgrading a PC's Drivers, (More importantly particularly the Bios,) is to only update it if there is a problem.

This must be a "rule" the techs are trying to follow...

I'm sure others have reported that that a software update can cure the missfire issue. Would a missfire actually report an error code?

If they can prove the missfire themselves hopefully they will do the update!

WITHOUT starting off a fuel debate, do you regularly buy your fuel from the same place? have you tried another garage, regardless of octane, to just see if thats any help

every tank of mine has come from the same garage so far with zero issues so it could be something to consider, might take 2 or 3 tank fulls for the ecu to adjust though so be patient

Take it to another dealer, they are talking rubbish if they say they can't check the ecu, when mine was in for service the ecu was updated with the latest map ( the misfire update)

If you go back to the first post on a thread you started and click the edit button, you get a box with just the text of the post in it.

But if you then click on "Use Full Editor" under that box you get a different display and you can change the title.

They can check the ECU, but I don't think they are saying that. What they are saying is without instruction from Skoda they are not allowed to update the ECU. This is quite correct, I am under the same instruction. This is because once an ECU is updated to a new software version it cannot be rolled back. Not all updates on the server are suitable for all cars. Also some ECU updates require a code entering from Skoda which will only be issued with a diagnostic procedure of a fault that requires the update.

I'm sure however if they contacted technical with the complaint they then would be instructed to carry out the update and then it can be invoiced and paid for by warranty.

As I say most of the time it's fine, just every now and again I'll get the misfire from cold, and occasionally the misfire when on partial throttle, if I'm 100% full throttle it's fine!

I only use V-Power and have used mostly the same garage but have occasionally used a different but not noticed any change.

That's exactly what i thought but considering t1chie's comment bellow I can believe the comment they made to me, but I will ring SUK for assistance

Thanks mate sorted it!!

I asked exactly that questions 'What is the reason why you can't do it, is it my car or your equipment because I know there is a reason'

To which he said it'd because there isn't a fault present. That's why I have agreed to take it back in.

I originally agreed with them for the software to be checked, that's what it was going in for, this is the reason i was more annoyed. But they hopefully can sort it on the next visit!

Mine has had a software update and the cold start lumpiness disappeared. It was also suffering from a misfire under acceleration and if I didn't ease off the epc light came on. This was sorted with new spark plugs.
