2011 VRS 5000 miles SQUEEKY brakes

Featured Replies

As per title my car has developed a very annoying squeek from brakes when coming to a stop hot and cold just as im releasing brake pedal in preparation to come to a stop it makes the annoying sound for a few seconds but cant decide where its coming from. Is this a common trait of the Octavia's on back maybe?

Have you lost a spring clip from one of the calipers?

I pick my VRS CR up next Thursday, keep us posted if you find anything...

I also have this. Makes the car sound "cheep", but the rusty disks on a winters morning makes it look cheep!

Not much of a problem to me as it goes like stink and it's a lot less dosh than the eqivelant in the VAG range.

You can get Wurth Brake & Chain cleaner. It's for motorcycles, but it cleans all of the crud out of brakes as well...

I've used it on my car & bike and it gets rid of all the crud & degreases the brake discs.

Had mine since June and no squeaks here. :)

I have this and it's pretty annoying. Especially as the car is so new

Take it back to the dealer if it is that annoying. It will take them 10 minutes to put a dab of coppaslip on the anti-squeal shims

No car should have squeaky brakes unless you have worn through your pads!

I had forgotten about this thread and not noticed the problem since until TODAY (as I thought I heard them the other day)! I think I have missed it due to radio being permanently on. The sod has had its first service too gurrrrrrrr!

The wheels will not have been off because it had a first Minor 'Oil Change' Service, not even if it had an 'Inspection Service'.

They might never be taken off by a garage for 3 years, if even then.

Since you have squeeky brakes you would be as well to get the wheels off and get a little 'Copper Grease' behind the pads.

& probably a little on the Wheel bore centres to see that the wheels come off easily.

(Check the wheel nuts anyway and see that you can get them lose at the roadside if you were to have a puncture)

Had this on a scirocco R had the brakes cleaned lubed oiled whatever they did it twice no change. Then put on new pads good for about 1000 miles then started again drove me mad. I was told it's the commonest complaint with new cars. The dealers seem to blame the material used in brake pads....bring back asbestos!

Cheers dude. Wheels have all been off a few times, to and from winter alloys etc. Car had been washed then not used and just popped into town and back. I will keep my ears open for the sound and see if its still there after a proper run.

Do not use copper slip. It is a bodgers fix and contains solvents that can cause the calliper seals to swell. Buy something like this.

It's the proper stuff to do the job and one sachet is enough for four calipers. A LIGHT smear on the back of the pads and around the pistons is all that is needed. The added bonus is you are never likely to get a seized caliper either.

Give her an Italian tune up and hammer the brakes a bit.. Wake them up :)

+1.

Fubar - your appear to keep your car in a very tidy state. When using pressure washer (and alloy cleaner, degreaser et al) it is likely that you are removing the grease on the anti-squeal plates and caliper pins, hence squeal you are experiencing. In addition to Wurth, Pagid Cera-tec from ECP or any non-metallic content high temp lube can be used. I've not had any issues with the Octy yet, but the wife's Golf rear callipers have to be stripped, cleaned and lubed virtually every year when I take the winter tyres off. This seems to be a very common problem on vag cars that don't do many miles and are parked up for several days at a time.
