In need of a new Alternator, - VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all, Been having a few problems with the VRS not starting & it cut out on me today when pulling off the drive although it had been running for a good 20 minutes defrosting the car,

Anyhow I was visiting my local Skoda today and asked the chap to check it out, He put his voltage tester across the alternator and it was only giving off 12v when its ment to be giving off 14v? So he said get the alternator replaced, He advised me to go to somewhere like ECP to get an alternator as it would be much cheaper than from them,

So my question to all is, Which alternator should I buy? Iv been on ECP and there is about 10 different ones for the VRS!?

Iv come across this one on ebay

Thanks in advance

Rich

Repaired mine last week as mine was snapped.

Does your battery light come on when you turn the ignition on?

Try the battery

fabia vrs's use a 110amp alternator mate, ive replaced a friends in the past, managed to pick one of ebay for around 40 i think, but check urs first.... there will be a little white sticker on the back which tells u what amp it is, it cud be 90amp depending on the year.

Battery light doesn't come on, then the load wire has broke.

When I checked mine, it looked intact but as I touched it slightly it was broke in two.

I might have a spare one but double check if its 90 or 110 first.

^ cheers for that guide,

Iv had a look at the cable at the alternator and it seems fine, started taking the undertray off but I cant reach the bolts at the back of the undertray to remove it

Car will be at unit 18 for some goodies in a few weeks, Do you think it will be ok to leave it till them and get them to sort it out?

Thanks

Are you looking at the right wires?

Jack car up, undertray off, passenger side, pretty much directly under battery.

^ cheers for that, just gave me some motivation to jack it up and remove the undertray, the blue cable has snapped off!

Dont think il be able to get a butt crimp on it as its too close to the plug, and there isnt enough space in there under the car for me to sort out,

Hmm!

Thanks

Rich
