battery size

Featured Replies

hi all, just a quick question,,,what size battery does a fabia vrs le on an 07 plate take ,,i think that the dizzy blonde needs one !!! :'(

go on euro car parts and put in your registration, click on the battery option and the correct battery will pop up, use brisk25 as a promotion code to get 25% off

hope that helps

Euro car parts website is not always right, certainly isn't for my model. I'd be looking at the existing battery, looking up dimensions, and using a tape measure (making sure not to short the battery terminals) and fitting the biggest battery that will go in the battery box. This might be a 096, but need to check by measuring.

Here's the battery sizes from when I compiled them a while back, all in mm

063 (L:207 W:175 H:175)

012 (L:207 W:175 H:190)

027 (L:242 W:175 H:190)

100 (L:278 W:175 H:175)

096 (L:278 W:175 H:190)

Euro car parts website is pretty crap. And that's almost a quote from the counter guy at my local ECP! I'd asked if his system was the same as the "customer" website, that's how the conversation started...

Battery should be a 096 or a 027 type. 096 is more usual IMO.

Google for "car battery by vehicle" and then click through the various websites.

Or do what I did, take a picture of the label on the top of your battery and then go compare online.

You can upgrade to a bosch S5 (H5B096) 780A(EN) 77Ah.

If you have a Halfords discount card they cost £84.65.

PS the measurements for the S5 are 278L x 175W x 190H.

Every online site I tried for mine came up with the WRONG battery - so beware. This was extensively discussed last winter when I was pondering getting a new battery - however even after over a year mine's still starting the car instantly, despite the "green eye" indicator having been black all the time.

Just tried that - it comes up with the WRONG battery.

A 096 is not a "drop-in" replacement for a late model Mark 1 Fabia vRS

EDIT - And a search on 027 reveals nothing at that site - "Sorry we could not find the product "027" "

EDIT - ... and I can't find out any way of getting the site to list all batteries without putting in either registration or make/model...

I opted for the Bosch HSB096 silver battery for my April 2007 Fabia vRS. It is a tight fit and the thermal blanket for the OEM battery is too small for it.

If you want a Bosch it seems you have to go for S5005 / 027 BOSCH SILVER PLUS Car Battery 12V 63Ah, CCA (EN) - 610A

How tight is tight?

How necessary is the thermal blanket?

I found ECP to be the only one to identify the correct battery for my 56 plate 1.4 TDI as an 027, everyone else quoted 096 which would not have physically fitted into the tray. While looking for a battery, there was lots of mention of the later MK1 VRS having a 027 but not sure how correct this is.

This is the Bosch S5 HSB096 as fitted to my 2007 Fabia vRS. There is 1/2" clearance between the battery and the tray each side so it isn't as tight a fit as I thought.

I managed to wrap the thermal blanket around 3 sides of the battery without removing the latter. When I have time I will try and make a better job of it.

The OEM battery was an Akuma C2 UM5 12V 70AH 340A which lasted 5 months short of 4 years.

I can confirm that a Bosch S5 battery will fits with ease to a 2006 fabia vrs because I fitted one to the wifes car (now my sons car) at about this time last year.

The only slight issue is with the wrap around thermol insulation that goes round the sides of the battery, the fastening clips at either end require extending approx 6cm because the uprated S5 battery is longer than the original.

Other than that it fits and looks great....like Skoda should have fitted a battery this size from new.

Are you sure about that rating? Mine's an Acuma but it's only a 61Ah

Yes. Those are the details I copied off the fitted battery when I was looking to replace it.

It must have been replaced sometime in the past then because the proper battery fitted to a late vRS is a 61Ah one. Refer my posting on the thread I linked to earlier

Wow, never knew the discount was that much. I bought mine from ECP and paid more :( If only Halfords advertised the trade card price rather than it being a lottery once you get to the till :)

If you're Midlands based ( or even Bristol) ,you could try Britania tyres - Derby is most northerly ,Bristol southern . I got one for my 04 TDI in october - to replace the origonal ( was failing in 09 when car went off road -so thats a tad over 5 years) . I was quoted approx £60 for what turned out to be wrong battery ,revised upwards by a touch ,to come in less than £70 for a higher amp hour one by Platinum .( although I got a bit of extra discount for them quoting for wrong battery in first place ) .Sems to be problem with battery charts - till they see the actual battery .
