Car in accident :(

Featured Replies

So.

Car was parked outside the mother in laws on Saturday. Get a call off her to say someone hit the car and driven off !

By the time I got over there the 3rd party had come back (old dear) and was apologising. Decided best option was to shrug it off and just take her details (luckily there was also a witness) so this now leaves me in a situation where I've got to get the car fixed.

Damage is scratched rear left bumper, rear left body panel over the wheel is dented and scratched, and the face of the alloy is also damaged.

Now. The car is obviously only 7 months old, so I want it sorting properly, and I also don't want to risk any issues with paintwork warranty etc down the line.

I guess based on that the best option is to insist on Skoda UK dealing with the repair. That way, if there is an issue and they chose to use Paul and Bobs spray shop, it was their choice.

Apparently the other persons insurer should be calling me today, so keen to know what you guys think I should suggest. I've spoken briefly to Skoda Assist out of hours who said they can happily sort it out, and my insurer is willing to sort me a courtesy car out.

I used Europa Consultants when I had a slight knock in my S2000 who I was happy with, so I'd consider them/Helphire/others if you have a recommendation.

What would you do?

What would you do?

Go with you know, better the devil you know but defo sort it out with a skoda repair shop as warranty will be better looked after IMO

As, above, choose the repairer you want

You will need an approved bodyshop but you can choose whoever you wish. Look here to see if there is one that takes your fancy in your area:

You know of Paul & Bob?? Wow!

Seriously though, sorry to hear of your misfortune but it will all be sorted I'm sure to your satisfaction. Body shops do a fantastic job these days. Let us all know how your repair goes and who you use to do it if you can. That sort of stuff is really helpful. Good luck.

sorry estate man going to have disagree with you there.just got my car back on Friday after the bodyshop having it over a month (rear end shunt).still not fixed properly and needs to go back in for 2 days on thurs.now bear on mind I have a sport and too cut a long story short the body shop manager phoned me saying my car was not original and I had fitted a halfords tail pipe thus making the bumper not fit correctly.well after giving him a mouthful it turned out they hadn't even botherd to fit the lower bumper spoiler that's why the bumper and exhaust didn't look right.was told the car was ready to collect and would get rebooked for spoiler only to find when about to drive away the boot open warning light was stuck on and also now needs a new boot latch.

stupid tw#t didn't have a clue

Is the Skoda paintwork warranty still only three years?

Is the Skoda paintwork warranty still only three years?

Yes but anti-corrosion is 12 years...

Not so good barrheadred, I agree. I don't suppose you will use them again either. And quite right too I guess.

lol guess what they where called......"quality repair" ! yeah I know :-0

The nearest one to me is an Audi dealer - I'm sure their labour rates are very reasonable!! That's if they'd have a Skoda in the body shop - might lower the tone.

Law of stupid names... I used to work for a company(on and off) Called Perfectionist plastering. With a name like that, you are set5ting yourself up for a fall! (They were ok-ish, in case their lawyers are looking, but not the best I've seen)!

Makes you think of the quote, "You have tried the rest, now try the best"! I avoid anyone with slogans like that as they inevitably let you down big time!

I had my skud walloped by a woman who failed, despite having a post mounted sign, an inverted white painted triangle on the road

and white painted "Give way" Lines painted at the end of her road/junction with the main road I was pootling along on,ALL in a 20mph zone.

I got the main dealer to repair it, at her insurances expense, to the amount of around £2000! This was without a two week hire of a duel controlled vehicle at around £65 a day, and loss of earnings, etc. This price was due to the impact cracking the washer bottle, knocking out the power steering pump, along with a new bumper, foglight and wing which were all mangled!

About a month on, at around 32,000miles and just over two years, the clutch has now gone! Call me "Lucky"! :giggle:

Doesn't matter if you aren't paying. Mine went to Shorade Accident Repair for a bumper respray under warranty and they're a Porsche Specialist.....and the only body shop i would ever use.

some insurance companies state or give a list of who you can take the car too and might not be the best for you but good for them.

The plot thickens.

I spoke to Skoda on Saturday and they had agreed to collect the car today from my house, I cancelled this in case my insurers were thinking I was being a bit too keen.

I've had a company called Gemini Car Solutions call me today on behalf of the third parties insurers offering to sort repair and a hire car. I've said to them that it was fine as long as the work was done in a Skoda approved bodyshop to ensure there would be no impact to my paintwork warranty. They basically said 'we have a list of garages, if it isnt on that list we won't do it for you' so we left it.

I called my insurers to ask how they wanted me to proceed. In short they want me to either

A) Pay my excess, and claim it back after non fault is agreed. They will sort me a hire car and repair the car with one of their garages, non skoda approved, who would guarentee the work

B) I choose the garage, claim through my insurance, dont get a hire car, LV have to get a quote and authorise the work, work is guarenteed by whoever I chose.

C) Have them informed on 'information only' and progress everything myself. They won't provide me a hire car, but Eurocar or someone like that have been passed my details by my insurers to give me a car and claim off the third parties insurers.

I thought, option C sounds best, so called Skoda to organise them doing the work. Skoda Assist have now decided as I can drive the car I need to speak direct to a Skoda garage to get the work done.

I called my local Skoda garage who tell me that they dont have a paintshop, but their group (Blade Group, they have Audi and VW garages also) has a workshop on the VW site down the road from me. If I want them to do it I go to them direct. This is a Skoda approved garage I'm told by them. I've checked this on this site here - http://www.vwgroup-paintandbody.co.uk/googleCentreLocator.asp?myPostcode=GL2+9DD and it does appear to be listed (Blade accident centre)

Slightly confused as to what I should now do. I called the garage I bought the car from who said if repair work is done the work is not covered by the skoda guarentee anymore, and is covered by the paint shop. The Skoda Corrosion warranty is 12 years... I doubt they will cover that long somehow (Who's to say I'll have the car then to be fair)

Short version, confusion reigns and I now don't really know what I should be doing. Am I right in thinking I should

1 - Get the work done by this Blade Accident centre, I've been told by a Skoda Garage they are an approved Skoda repair centre. Get the 3rd Parties insurance to pick up the bill.

2 - Get the hire car from this Eurocar company whomever they are, get them to bill the 3rd parties insurer.

3 - If Skoda get silly down the line say 'You said this was an approved garage, why won't you cover this?'

Only problem with the above... 3rd parties insurer haven't got in touch with me yet !

some insurance companies state or give a list of who you can take the car too and might not be the best for you but good for them.

They can say what they want but you are free to take car to wherever you choose. You may not get a hire car thru the insurers but as its a non fault you can just hire one.

@the op, as for the 12year anti corrosion, I had 2new wings on my bora at 7years old. Took a lot of fighting but in the end they had to pay £1500 to my bodyshop! Moral is make sure you go to an approved body shop off that website.

Yes but anti-corrosion is 12 years...

The reason I raised the paintwork warranty is that I thought the VW paintwork warranty was 10 years but Skoda three (which seems strange when VW own Skoda) - I could be wrong but this is what I think I picked up when I last had a VW (sold three years ago).

If I had a vandal scratch I doubt I'd go to an approved body shop (unless I was putting it through my insurance) - my paintwork warranty will be up at the end of September next year anyway.

Edited to add: I was, not for the first time, wrong - the VW paintwork warranty is only three years as well.

Vw is 3years also. Its the anti corrosion the main one as if you are having panels replaced they will need to be covered else you could end up with a polo like my mates. Had crash 5years ago and a transit totaled his rear end resulting in new rear quarter, repair to other quarter, new front wing, new boot and after 2years it started to rust, had it repaired under warranty from bodyshop but now back and bubbling well.

YOU choose the repairer not the insurer. Legal cover is included in most policies for free or less than the cost of this.

I have never had legal cover for free always extra between £20/£25 and if i do not use there repairers you get no curt car

You will get courtesy car from bodyshop....i always have and if it isn't your fault you can just go through a hire company and get a like for like car. Mates dad had someone hit his X-type and ended up with an E Class Merc.
