Skoda Superb RSAP only protocol won't work with Iphone

Featured Replies

To all those who are frustrated that they cannot pair Iphone 4 with the Skoda Superb Columbus system because it is RSAP only. I have spent the whole day trying to find out if I my Iphone will pair up, and the answer is NO. If like me you have RSAP protocol only, it will never work as it is incompatible, and I was told that there are NO upgrades in the pipeline from Skoda. However, I understand that later models than mine (registered May 2010) have RSAP and HFP which does pair with Iphone.

Having only purchased my Iphone yesterday, I am now considering returning it before the 14 day approval date expires.

RSAP is licensed to Nokia and Iphone will not purchase the license from Nokia. I am told this is the problem. So, who is at fault, Skoda for tying into a rigid system or Iphone for not coughing up to Nokia? Skoda have recognised the problem since my car was manufactured and have cured it by adding HFP (a Hands Free Protocol). Of course, they would have had to cure it in order to sell more cars, I can't imagine fleet cars being sold to businesses without the bluetooth functionality for Iphones! I think Skoda should do the decent thing and offer an upgrade for all cars with the columbus GSM RSAP system. After all, my car is only 2 years old!

I am livid that I cannot have an Iphone 4 connected to my bluetooth! I wonder how big this problem is in the UK and is anything going to be done about it.

Has anyone with the same problem found a way around this yet?

Even better... with "Superb" photos... See here

Get a Samsung Galaxy S2

Has RSAP and is a better phone than the iphone (according to www.techradar.com)

Connects as soon as I get into the car

Yes. Works fine with my Galaxy S2 too (and it is also a fantastic phone).

Another vote for the galaxy 2 if you do return the iphone. Mine works flawlessly with the car. And i last charged it on sunday and still have 24% charge left this morning despite lots of use yesterday

Come on guys, let's not get into the Mines better than yours and why would you want to jump on the Apple marketing wagon debate... This is posted all over the place on this forum.

We know some of you love the S2 - we know some like the iPhone or Blackberry - if we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place...

The BB Torch as mentioned above, should connect to rSAP aswell - when i had one, mine did, once only tho...

Changing the unit and connection via Hands Free will allow the phone, no matter which phone, to still act as a phone, ie, have internet access, use maps, emails etc etc. Yes, you'll get better signal with rSAP and yes the texts come on screen, but it's so dam complicated, limited, and there is down-time from changing between the car and phone.

To the Op; You'll love your new iPhone, but you'll be forced to change the unit as described in my postings if you want to use it with the Superb.

Just a note - Nokia handed rSAP over to the Bluetooth SIG in 2005. Since then, there has been no need to license rSAP separately, you just need to license Bluetooth.

I get a 2012 Superb Elegance in March - are you saying I WILL be able to pair my iPhone with the Columbus system????

I assumed it would work when I read the gumpf in the brochure but then a lot of the entires on this site suggest not!

Yes it will connect no problem.

The only thing you cannot do is read text messages on the maxidot (not a bad thing IMO)

Thanks Gizmo - not too sure why anyone would want to read text messages on the Maxidot screen anyway - however, glad to see it will work - next step (after getting the car early March) is to work out how to do it.......... time will tell!

It takes all of 30 seconds to connect, it all depends on how quickly you can type the 16 digit synch code into your iPhone.

Through the phone settings on maxidot (ensure bluetooth is on, on the iPhone) search for devices, it finds the iPhone and gives you the 16 digit code to enter, type it into the iPhone as instructed and voila! I have 2 iPhones and a Blackberry defined - so easy to set up - you will have no problems.

My daughter got an iPhone 4s for Christmas and it connects to the columbus in the car no problem.Dont know about texts, but I can't read them whilst driving anyway. My car is a 99elegance.

Just to clarify a minor point. No phone actually connects to the Columbus (or Bolero).

The phone connects to the Bluetooth unit which might be under the drivers seat in the Superb. (That is where it is in the Octavia and Yeti.)

The Columbus does not have any Bluetooth wizardry inside.

The phone would still work even if there was no Columbus etc in the car. (if you have the oem BT carkit installed).
