Pickup new VRS TDI Thursday - What to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi all, well after several months of waiting (order placed late October) my car is being prepped for collection on Thursday...

As it'll be the first time I've ever bought a new car I have no idea what to expect, what to look for etc. :S

I'll be ensuring its on variable and that the paint looks stunning (Autoglym finish should have been applied). I asked for EU plates as I do to Europe every year or so and I'll be furious if the reg plates have been screwed into the metal instead of the purpose made holes on the boot.

Other than that, I'm a little apprehensive... But can't wait! :D

Suggestions?

PS. Spec is Race Blue, VRS leather, rear parking sensors, variable boot floor, auto lights n wipers, maxidot.

I hope you did'nt pay for the Autoglym!

Surely any decent protective coating is worthwhile, especially this time of year?

Yes but they often charge over £200 for something that cost about a tenna and takes 15mins to apply!! :'(

Congratulations, nice choice

My only bit of advice is take your time, especially when it comes to checking over the car. You need to spot any scratches or imperfections before you drive it away.

Make sure they remember to give you both keys and the hand/service book.

Best not read this thread then, luckily Skoda UK were excellent and put right the damage...

That's what made me aware in the first place, I told Gareth who assured me they do it properly at Leeds. He's been quite helpful so far so we'll see.

Is it DM Keith in Leeds? They repaired the damage to mine and did a great job, they even showed me the template they use to mark the drill holes on the number plate so that they align perfectly to those on the boot lid.

I'm sure they'll do it right :)

Yip! Reassuring to know they did yours, I'm still stunned people could do that to a car when it's got pre drilled holes!

Get them to cancel the Autoglym! Get a good local detailer to do it for you after you take delivery, will be a lot cheaper and will be done to a better standard, I am not saying the lifeshine isnt no good, its just that it is rarely applied correctly so you are paying for something that is going to last only a couple of months at best.

I got caught many years ago with a similar product, paid through the nose for it and it was after that I decided to look into it in a bi more depth and found that I had paid a lot of money for something that was only a tenner to buy!

Get yourself to a local detailer or pop to Halfords and get yourself some basic products, do it yourself!

Above all, savour the first day with your brand new car! Take lots of pics.

Once you've checked it all over properly, drive & enjoy!

It won't be long before it's not so new & perfect!!

Great choice, have fun and let us know how the first 1000 miles go!

Cheers,

Dunc.

Great choice this is like a blast from the past almost a year ago i did same thread for getting mine in march (time has flown) 5700 miles ive done and 5000 of that was covered in journeys home GURRRRRR as has been said get a detailer to do it better again if you can get one to go with you they will see EVERY tiny mark a torch is good to check out paint work I took mine for a detailing after i got it and had a machine polisher burn in pain pointed out to me where someone had gone too deep prob on a scratch ealers told me to swivel on it. You are getting it from one of best ive heard of though by sounds of it.

If you think it drives well when you get it put 1500 miles on it then get it remapped and see what you have been missing :D

ps. for your EU driving check out my pic guide for adjusting normal headlights for driving on the right. My Guide

Spoke to Gareth this morning, the Autoglym stuff has already been applied, ah well, at least it'll look awesome!

More importantly, it was built just before the switchover to those god awful chav style crappy fake carbon inserts! :D YAY!

Come on time, go quicker!!!

Make sure they've put 5 nuts in each wheel and check the locking wheel nuts are in and tight.

And yes after a week of getting my brand new car I noticed one of my wheels only had four nuts. The dealer claimed it had been stolen. It was the locking nut :S

There is a check list somewhere, you might want them to activate corner fogs, emergency braking lights, CH/LH on fogs, tear drop wipe on the rear..that sort of thing. Make sure there are no swirls or scratches or dings. Also check you have an English manual and the spec is correct.

The lifeshine isn't that bad, you just need to keep on top of it to keep it looking pukka. I'd also take off your wheel nut covers and re-apply them with some blutack inside them - speaking from experience they cost 0.71p each to replace and with potholed roads, they come off far too easily.

Quite like the carbon effect trim, and would have ordered that if it had been available when I ordered mine in Dec 11.

Enjoy the car !

Shouldn't these already be activated?

For inspection purposes there'll be me, the missus and a mate... I think we'll have it covered! ;)

1 sleep to go!!! :D

I see that you have specified Maxidot, most of the available settings can be done using Maxidot, not all but most.

Absolutely mint!! :D

The fact I told the missus we were only 'popping in to sign something' made it worthwhile too ;)

The only issue is that for some reason it's set to fixed servicing, and as we had other plans didn't have the time today so I'll be booking it in the next chance I get.

Looks great, smells like leather and is now the newest member of the family! Still got a few things to discover when I get the chance to read the manual, but managed just over 45mpg on the way back here at a pootle. Never went past 3k but you can tell it'll be potent when wound up properly, brakes are a little sharper than my old one (01 Octy Elegance TDI) and the clutch is a little strange - obviously to be expected.

Anyway, all seems tight, quiet and refined... Thinking up reasons to go for a drive!

Happy!

You dont need any reason to go drive it, just do it!!! Glad you are happy!

Anyway, we need pics!! We liek to see pics of brand spanking new cars :-)

It rained on the way home, so it already needs a wash :( and it's getting dark so I think pics tomorrow! :)
