iPod Touch locked

Featured Replies

My eldest has sold his iPod Touch to his step-brother. Step bro has changed the passcode and then promptly forgot the code.

Is there any way of resetting it? Probably not as an anti-theft measure.....

On the iPad if you have this set and enter it wrongly 10 times all data is erased, including the passcode, according to the online manual. Worth checking the online manual for the iTouch to see if it is similar.

Also give Apple a call, or one of the stores, their teams seem to have good knowledge of the products and presumably if your son was the original owner, ownership of that serial number should be able to be confirmed and something sorted out.

I thought those codes could be reset by plugging it into an iTunes installed.computer?

Or maybe that was just by old iPod.video

Force the ipod into recovery mode, then connect to itunes computer and restore it.

Sorry to be thick Mike, how do you do that?

This will work with any iOS device (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad) but it will erase all data. Also useful if an update to your device fails or it won't start up past the Apple logo (you can always sync again or restore from backup).

  • Connect your device to your computer with iTunes open
  • Hold down the sleep/wake and home buttons for eight seconds then release the sleep/wake button (continue holding down the home button)
  • The screen should normally remain black and after a few seconds iTunes will tell you that your device is in recovery mode and has to be restored
  • Click OK and then Restore

This should restore it as a new device.
