Some aerial help please

Featured Replies

Folks, I am trying to get to the bottom of the situation with my aerial. Currently it displays Q: Poor or Mono (very occasionally Stereo if I am lucky) - when I got the car, Ant off was displayed on the HU so I replaced the antenna base and mast. This solved the problem but I am still getting the Q: issue.

I assume somewhere there is an issue with the aerial shorting to ground - I notice that in the Golf, with Diversity (and therefore newer Octavias with Diversity as well) there are some filters that stop the aerial connection being shorted out - this is a Golf with an antenna in the rear window:

1 – Frequency modulation (FM) frequency filter in negative wire -R178-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

2 – Amplitude modulation (AM) frequency filter -R177-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

3 – Frequency modulation (FM) frequency filter in positive wire -R179-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

4 – Right aerial module -R109-

* For FM/AM reception

* Diversity aerial FM 1

* Optionally also DAB digital radio reception possible

* Aerial amplifier, impedance converter

5 – Left aerial module -R108-

* For FM reception

* Diversity aerial FM 2

* Aerial amplifier, impedance converter

6 – Rear window aerial -R130-

1 – Mobile telephone -R54-

* Optional

2 – Aerial -R66-

* Roof-mounted

* Only installed with relevant equipments as telephone, navigation system or auxiliary heater with remote control

3 – Left aerial module -R108-

* For FM reception

* Diversity aerial FM 2

* Impedance converter

4 – Aerial wire for optional “DAB†radio reception

5 – Right aerial module -R109-

* For FM/AM reception

* Diversity aerial AM/FM 1

* Impedance converter

6 – Radio -R- or control unit with display for radio and navigation system -J503-

* RCD 310

* RCD 510

* RNS 510

7 – Frequency modulation (FM) frequency filter in negative wire -R178-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

8 – Amplitude modulation (AM) frequency filter -R177-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

9 – Frequency modulation (FM) frequency filter in positive wire -R179-

* Has the task of preventing the aerial signals being shorted to earth

10 – Rear window aerial -R130-

I can't quite work out what the rear window aerial is - is it in the heater element or is there an actual aerial, which is attached somehow (and therefore available as a spare part) to the tailgate and/or rear window, that will allow all of the filters to be fitted and therefor for Diversity to work properly as it should.

Secondly, does the Skoda have any of these types of filter fitted and, most importantly, what route through the car does the aerial take to the headunit? In my Focus it went down the LH A pillar, but I wondered if in the Octavia, it went down the C pillar and along the sill.

Any experts?

Thanks

John

Im no expert mate, but i know my vrs estate has the window mounted aerial on the boot side window (not sure on the route that cable takes), but i know that the roof mounted aerial cable travels across the roof lining to the passenger side c pillar and then almost positive it travels down the passenger sill to the back of the headunit. The only other possible route is up the centre tunnel but ive just fed RCA cables from the boot to my headunit and i didnt see an aerial cable.

Hope this helps

Yes that does help, cheers. I also note on my wife's mk5 that what I think is the aerial in the window, is the two vertical elements running down the window and I think, without the replacement window, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to retrofit that function.
