How Noisey Is Your PD170

Featured Replies

Hi lads

Not had my car that long and just recently noticed it sounding a lot more tappy.

The engine seems to make a very tractor like almost resonating drdrdrdrrdrdrrdrdr at between 1250 RPM to 1500 RPM noticeable around town and slow moving traffic. At 1000 rpm and 1500rpm and above it sounds pretty normal lesss drdrrdrdrdrdr and acceptable but at 1250rpm to 1500rpm the noise is almost embarrassing the clatter it makes.

Some feedback i get is it is normal but im confused why it sounds well smoother outside that rev range.

What do your PD170s sound like bettween 1250-1500 rpm ?

thanks lads

my skoda 140 pd sounds the same as yours mine has only done 15000 miles i think this must be normal for the pd engine

i have tried a new 170 cr engine they very quite compaired to the pd

Could be to do with the oil pressure flow to the hydralic tappets.

That particular rev range may be giving excess stress to the engine.

More fuel is required increasing the pressure of combustion.

Could be a tensioner on its way out and that noise is heavy vibration.

Id test drive the exact same car and see if it does the same thing

Could be the way they are made, i know the company car mazda 6 sound terrible at low revs but quiet when at a high rev range

The diesel engine is noisy but dont forget its a diesel! Comparing it to a petrol is not fair.

I do agree however it is one of the noisier diesels on the road

The one note i hate is when its on half throttle, for example when your slowing down in gear and then slowly put the accelerator back down, very unrefined sound!

I think it sounds quite meaty when its been given the beans though

I assume you have checked the oil level!?
