Finally got a VRS

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Although I joined this forum last year, due to various things cropping up, I never got round to getting my VRS .....till now :) . After coming from a Nissan Primers GT all I can say is what a piece of kit!.

There are just a couple of things that I hope some kind soul can help me with please as the car has no owners book and until I get one when the dealer receives it from order I need to know what a few things do please.

Firstly on the main window switch panel on the drivers door there is a long rectangular button in the middle of the panel - what does it do?

Secondly, the car has stickers on the windows saying Skoda security system, does this mean it has the factory fitted alarm on it?

Does the resr seat have a drop down armrest, if so how do you access it?

And finally, the car has a creak coming from the front over bumps, it had its mot today and they fitted rollbar drop links. Do these take time to bed in or are there other bushes on the bar that require renewal or lubing?.

Sorry for the long post but the wait was well worth it.

Many thanks in advance

Phil

hey and welcome.

the button disables the rear window switches, so if youve kids in the back they cant work the windows for example.

yes it has a alarm as standard,

rear armrest just pulls down on mine - its the section in the middle.

cant help with the creaking

no it doesnt have an alram as standard it has an imobiliser only

no it doesnt have centre arm rest

creaking will prob be front anti roll bar bushes

enjoy the new car

creaking may also be arb bushes =- simple to replace

hi phil where abouts in kent you from

I'm from faversham only had my vrs a few months

If it's a Mk1 Octavia it won't have a rear arm rest (Mk2's do)

Creaking could be your anti-roll bar they may have replaced the drop links but they need to check if the bar has corroded under the ARB bushes if so it will make a creaking noise over rough roads.

Kent meet is 1st Saturday of each month (see meets section)... come along!

Thanks for the replies, yes it is a 53 plate mk1 vrs.

chicken_eyebrow, if the roll bar has corroded under the bushes, is this a clean up and lube with new bushes or is it more intense?.

missingmyvrs, the dealer is saying that it has a factory fitted security system as well as the immobiliser. How do I check to be certain, the sticker definately says "skoda security system fitted" rather than immobiliser and is fitted on both rear door glasses - looks very official.

Thegooner84, I wondered if that was what it did but if i press it, i can still use the rear windows on the rear door switches. Is this an expensive switch to change or is there a cure that only involves time and patience to clean the switch?.

Snowey_vRS, I am in Dartford.

Once again thanks - I really appreciate the help.

If the ARB has corroded under the bushes it means a new ARB and bushes, not massively expensive though

Hi,

The switch to deactivate the rear windows is a two position switch, down position deactivated the windows, up position does not, check when it's fully down.

Re alarm, if I recall on a mark I the alarm was not standard, but was an option extra??? Otherwise they have window stickers regarding being on a national security register which matches the etched numbers on the side and bootlid glass, could this be what you're looking at?

Enjoy your wagon...

Leeboy, rear window switches on doors still work whether switch is up or down, so I presume switch is past its best?. Not sure on alarm, but dealer seems certain he is right, is there a way to check - i.e the led on the door flashing?, or should I just wait for the owners book?.

chicken_eyebrow, roughly how much is an anti roll bar, and is it a difficult job to do as a diy proposition?.

I had mine done by a local garage with new bushes a few years ago for £135 I think it was but I don't think that included the labour, it was an hour or two labour as well. Can't remember if you need to drop part of the subframe or not to release and refit the ARB bush clamps. If replacing the ARB stick the thicker R32 one on then a 28mm rear ARB it will vastly improve the handling.

hi fella welcome to the club!! i had a nissan primera gt before my octavia to what a car, but i do love my octy :)

like everyone says no alarm :( but it does have good security anyway...

plus no rear arm rest like the primera gt i no it was a good bit bout it but u can get arm rest for the front of the octy

Hi NinjaVRS, think I'm gonna miss the old girl, but this VRS feels so tight and together, even at 90k. I won't be picking car up till next weeek, then it is going to Dartford Skoda for a belt and pump change - want to see how good they are - so if I get it sorted i may come down to next month's meet. Does the window switch need to come from a salvage skoda or do Golf/Audi switches crossover on parts usage?. Might have a look on ebay, but I may be buying like I've already got.

Thanks everybody - hopefully speak to aome of you in person soon.

Awesome choice. Ive sent you a private message.Cheers.
