Anyone have a DMF go on a PETROL car?

Featured Replies

As above really.

Vaguely read about DMF's on here and thought they only were in diesels and/or DSG gearbox cars but didn't realise they were on 1.8t & 2.0t petrol engines too (I have a manual 1.8t so assume I have one, although no problems here). I get that the torque will always be less in a petrol than a diesel so i'm betting it's not as big an issue cos therefore there's gonna be less torque applied through the flywheel, but has anyone got a petrol with a DMF that's failed?

Also, if an armada of people come on saying 'YES!!', is there a SMF kit available for petrol engines and is it worth it?

If you Google for GTI+DMF there do appear to be failures but not in the same league as diesels. Seems to be associated with tuned cars with higher miles.

Some people have replaced with SMF so there are parts available.

Yep i'm in argument with Skoda UK about it, been arguing for over a year and went as far as gettin in touch with Robert Hazelwood and Will Fisher.

I've had the gearbox bearings and needles replaced and a new clutch release bearing as they thought it was that despite me from day one saying its the DMF.

Its been in a further 2 times regarding it and all i get in reply is "its within paramaters and tolerances" i have no idea what these paramaters and tolerances are.

Now my rear wiper motor has stopped working the motor is on back order and will be looked at again when gettin the wiper motor replaced and i want a "yes it needs replaced under warranty" answer if they come back with no they can have the car back.

It is not just to do with torque but how the car is used. I had a diesel Mercedes and the DMF was replaced under warranty at 15000 miles. When I had the car I was doing lots of short journeys with a cold engine and it was this which contributed to its early demise. A petrol has much less vibration/pulsing than a diesel engine so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

From the many posts on this forum, the "killer" failure on Octavias seems to be the ESP one and I am not sure if there is anything one can do to avoid getting hit with that!

If i've got the right bit, it seems that nowadays this seems a decent and cheap option for the MK60 especially if it comes with a lifetime warranty (although I can't find what the * next to it is referring to...), although it IS rubbish if it's a known fault!

There is a kit to replace the failed ESP module now. It's not the big worry it was. Still a hefty job (£350 I think is the going rate) but not the £1500 it used to be.

Thanks for the info on the ESP module. I still have another year of warranty left but assuming I still have the car in a year's time purchase of a year 4 warranty would have been heavily influenced by the potential huge bill for ESP. £350, although unpleasant, is a bit more manageable - and it may not ever happen of course.

My rear wiper is also buggered and i'm waiting for wiper arm and motor. Every time I fire up the motor runs amd makes a horrible noise. Only 1300 miles on clock
