Manifold Breather

Featured Replies

I've got to the point where I've loosened the bracket around the dipstick & found the breather was properly shredded.

I've got a new hose & PCV to go back in, I am hugely struggling to work out how to get the OEM clip off the T-piece thats holding the current PCV & hose in place (managed to get the hose off the manifold end OK).

Should I be able to take the N249 bracket off completely? At the moment I can't see how to fully removed as its held down by all the pipework attached to it, I can only move it a little.

GRRR! :)

From memory you only have to undo 2 pipes that feed N249/N212 bracket, disconnect the connectors & it comes off. As for the T pipe it has a crimped clip so you'll have to break that & put a jubilee clip on.

thanks for the advice - I had some lunch and decided to go the (adopt caveman voice) 'man hit car' route.

I managed to jam a screwdriver under the nearest OEM clip and pulled on the broken hose and it came away. Not ideal as I wanted to replace the PCV as well, but I realised it was probably as good as it was going to get, and I was frozen in the wind coming in off the sea.

Also, while putting things back together, I realised I needed to plug in the N249 and pulled the bracket forward & CRACK, I broke the dipstick tube... after being very very careful not to all the way through :)

Took the car for a 10 min spin - idle & hesitation seems to have been fixed, also seems to be back to full boost (19psi peak measured with my Liquid Gauge).

Picture of the old piece is attached - the shredded bit is the manifold end.

That pipe is notorious for splitting. You'll need to get a new dipstick tube as it's part of the PCV system, & will cause rough idle.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but do you have a part number for that hose? Mine has split in exactly the same place, and has sprayed oil vapour everywhere. Tried looking on ECS parts, but it's so confusing lol.

Same as a lot of other people, I used a Creation hose listed on eBay

Ah cool, I think that's what I'm gonna do anyway.

Hi, is this the same hose you are talking about?? You can just about make out the split in my photo close to where the pipes join. If not could someone please give me the part number of that hose I need to replace in the pic??

Cheers!

Samuel
