Dent in roof...

Featured Replies

There I was, minding my own business sitting at the lights when a fossilised weather cone (clearly on steroids) decided to fling itself out of its home high up in the trees and straight on to the roof of my nice shiney new Fabia..

The bang was so loud that the rest of the family thought we were under attack !!

I now have a dent about the size of a typical "car park door ding" but in the centre of the roof just in front of the aerial.

A local body shop, who I naively thought would "ping" it out in about 5 mins reckons that a SMART repair is not suitable and wants £200 + to repair/repaint the whole roof. I am a little reluctant to commit to this on a car with only a few weeks under its belt.

As always fellow Briskodians, any thoughts/comments about my predicament please...?

Or indeed, has anyone been succesful in getting this apparently awkward centre of roof type of dent repaired..?

Have you been to places that specialise in smart repairs as it sound like it could be done.I have seen dents on the crease of wings that have been manipulated back into shape and these are usually hard to repair.

There is more money in it for the body shop to say it cannot be smart repaired?

Who is to say they would not smart repair it anyway and polish the roof so as to suggest its been resprayed.

Dent repair guys can do it easily as long as the dent has not ruined/cracked the paint and the metal is not that creased (sharp).

A full roof respray should'nt cost no more than £100-£120 anyway.

Fit a sunroof?

Smart repair guys wont touch the roof or bonnets as i found out when needing a dent removed from mine.

still worth phoning round but i had no luck here from about 10 companies.

The SMART dent repair people (one prepared to do it) will have to strip out the upper interior of the car to get behind the dent to do it properly.

You'll be looking at about £200 or so due to the time involved.

Dent Devils will do it.

At least, the one near me will as this is the price they quoted for a small dent in the rear of my roof that they said they'd have to take the roof lining and pillar trims out to access.

A good dent man will be able to pull it out from the outside without ever even opening a door never mind take the interior out.

I remove dents for a living and it should be an easy fix. You need to get behind the dent so maybe removing or dropping part of the roof lining will be needed.

I'm no where near you but if you fancy a road trip I'll have the kettle on :-).

I'd charge you £50 to do it aswell if you need a price to go by.

Cheers paul
