Installation Parrot MKi9200 and Bolero stereo in Octavia II VRS

Featured Replies

I've got a Parrot MKi9200 that I'd like to install in my VRS which has the standard Bolero stereo in it. I've looked around this forum and found out that I need Autoleads SOT-976 (which I've purchased) adaptor to fit the stereo. I've installed Parrots in my two previous cars which was relatively easy, but I was curious if anyone else has installed this model in their Octavia? Was it difficult?

Also, does anyone know/has anyone been able to house the mic in within the mic housing built into the roofliner of the VRS (meant for the Skoda bluetooth)?

Not done that specific model, but it's fairly straightforward, especially if you've undertaken a similar process in other cars.

If you want a hand with removal instructions for central trim and the Bolero, look at this guide. It's based on the MFD2 but the steps are the same:

Useful to remove the top box and also the ashtray area too, as with these removed it's easier to move cabling and the Parrot control box around and find a suitable area for it to sit.

With the Parrot mic, I'd personally mount it just behind the rear view mirror. With quite a few 3rd party mics, they can end up picking up a fair bit of background noise when they're mounted in the interior light recess you mention.

Have one fitted in my octi with the Mic in the same place as an oem Mic but, as above, it seemed to pick up loads of background noise so have moved it now to the top of the A pillar & it's as clear as a bell & you don't really notice it as it blends in with the background

Thanks Wardy & Gleemin. Any recommendations on the best way to remove the surround. I've tried a couple of times now and I can get the bottom and sides to release without much trouble, but the top clips don't want to budge! Worried I'm going to snap them.

Hopefully that guide will help, but if you've not done it before it can seem strange. Start by flipping the ashtray open, which gives you room underneath the bottom of the surround to pull away and release the clips around the bottom and climate/heating controls. With that section out and away from the dash, continue to pull. The top row of clips always are the most difficult, even when the surround's been in and out several times as mine has.

You just have to keep the faith! Continue to pull and those clips will release. You could also lever in along that edge with a trim removal tool if you have one. If not, something like an old credit card/loyalty card (don't use a current one as they get bent!) or even a plastic kitchen spatula can be helpful.

The clips are really quite strong.

Shame you're not local otherwise I'd have popped round and shown you....

You don't *need* the in-line adaptor.

1 x 12 Pin Green Flat Contact Housing (Plug) Radio/Telephone Connection - 3B7 035 447 B

(Unless you already have the green connector in the Quadlock)

3 x 1 Set of Wires with 2 Contacts for 3B7 035 447 B - 000 979 010

These connect into the green connector as shown further down the page on http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/mfd2-install-guide

-or-

1 x 1 Set of Wires with 2 Contacts to connect to telemute on MFD2, Stream or Audience Radio - 000 979 133

(goes into the ISO connector part of the Quadlock, againn as shown on octavia-vrs)

This will mute the HU as required and pump the sound through the existing speakers. :)

(You'll need to find the right balance between the HU volume and the car-kit volume)

Total cost of parts - about a fiver.

No need to find space to wedge the in-line connecter stuff into. ;)

Thanks all. Finally got it fitted with help from my Brother-in-law (also a fellow Octy VRS owner). The problem we ran into was that there didn't seem to be a switched live in the fuse box. We spent ages using a normal sized blade fuse holder for the ignition switch in the parrot but it was just permanently on. We then tried a micro sized fuse holder with the smaller fuses and those were switched live! Hurrah!

However, whilst the Parrot is all working I've now only got one speaker working (front passenger speaker), so must have wired something wrong.
