6sp Dsg - what would you change?

Featured Replies

As per the tittle

I find s setting a pain as the change up rpm from 3rd upwards on the petrol vrs is 500rpm too high.

I'd change that plus in manual delete the kickdown as per the current remaps

Last thing I'd do is up the rpm change point! Perhaps worth while on a ko4 turbo? But I can't see it personally.

lol I bet the old petrol block is screaming its nipples off at 500RPM :giggle:

I think he means the change point should be 500rpm lower.

I find the box is great in my TSi vRS Octy

You can delete the kick down yourself by holding the paddle. Either that or don't mash the pedal to the floor.

My bad

We've been doing lots of DSG work on the newer 6spd gearboxes recently, they are far too keen to change up and want to be in 6th at 35mph. We're altering the shift points to make it a more natural drive in auto mode.

Hi Ben,

I was meant to come down and have my car re mapped with you. Finances made me put the map on the back burner. Remember the white VRS CR diesel, 185bhp on your rollers? I had mine in at the stealers last week and they said they had a software update for the DSG. Not aware that there was one. (09 plate)

I still find it a pain and increasingly irritating that the box wants to be in 6th whilst pootling along. I am starting to think that the way forward is a re map of the box.

Driving along roads listening to my DMF complaining about 6th gear when it should be in 5th or even 4th at times drives me mad and is infuriating. Might be up for this if I am on the right track finance wise when the car is out of warranty in April.

hi Ben

the auto D mode doesn't really bother me as its quite relaxed. I can live with that (and I assume it saves fuel)

is it possible to map each individual gear rpm limit? I know it changes around 6k in D and about 6.8k in S. Ok in the first couple of gears but under load 3rd / 4th upwards it runs off the torque curve beyond say 6.5k - probably beyond the turbos efficiency envelope?

obviously you can overide the box with the paddles to overcome this shortness of breath but i think it would be a bit nicer if it did it itself.
