I be's a pleased Diesel Driver

Simply because with just over 27 thousand on she seems to have started to bed in or leastwise return respectable fuel economy figures.

Got 63.4 tother night on a 25 mile round trip from a cold start.

getting middle 50's i.e, 55 plus mpg on my less than 8 mile return trip for lunch

still only getting 50 plus on the once a week motorway run = 60-80mph for 50 miles. park up and repeat on return a wheen o hours later.

not bad, imnsho

Oops...... I need to verify at the pumps,i.e. "brimmed" figures but in my earlier somewhat anal new car days i figgered the trip computer was only 2.5 to 3.?? optomistic compared to brimmed figures over thousands of miles.

cheers

Hi Sur!

I now be even more pleased, just back from Coleraine via a rough lane en-route, a couple of stops, but mostly "A" roads, including traffic lights and roundabouts , quite a bit of traffic, mostly sat with the flow , overtook a wheen on the short stretch of dual, as no other overtaking options.

Did 3.7 miles at 07.30 and a ret trip of 7.7 miles at lunchtime, no other driving.

21.4 miles at 40 mph in 32 mins = 58.6mpg, all figs per trip computer

less say to be very generous 5 % error

= actual 55.67 mpg, or nearer 57 at 3% error.

all subject to re-verification

I am also aware that these figures are almost certainly between DPF "burns", but even so ;)

You are racking the miles up on her now but lost me with the 50 mile motorway bit unless you get a ferry across the water :giggle:

Northern Irelands entire motorway network:

M1 38 miles

M2 22 miles

M3 0.8 miles

M5 1.4 miles

M12 1.5 miles

M22 5.6 miles

A8(M) 0.8 miles

I am bored hence looking them up (want to know where the hell my road tax money is going tbh). Your doing better than me hi my 900 mile each way commute (stay close to work for that reason) I still only get around 53mpg in the 2.0CR :( the old 1.9PD TDi would do 65mpg easy all day long on that run!

I've been running a 2011 Seat Ibiza 1.6 TDi CR105 Estate this week whilst my 2007 PD170 Octavia vRS has been in the garage.

A good test I thought as I was seriously considering 1.6CR or 1.9PD Octavia's before I bought the vRS.

Same daily commute (140 mile round trip, quiet 60mph A roads and 70mph dual carriageways) which gets me 51-53mpg in the vRS.

With the Seat Ibiza being a much lighter car with the much more modern CR engine along the same route at the same speeds... 48-51mpg

Pretty poor if you ask me.

CR RULES!

TBH unless there is something wrong with the car its going to be the driver :p Took me a little time to work out how to get the real MPG out of the CR having been used to the PD for years and that wasnt dropping 65bhp at same time. Look at things like the greenline II some car magazines get 55mpg average on mixed roads some have got over 80mpg doing same trials on mixed roads, biggest difference between these tests are the drivers. I am fairly confident young DieselDogg there could squeeze some mega mpg out of that Ibiz more than most and we have 2.0PD TDi VRS owners on here who report over 60mpg on normal runs, I don't doubt it can actually be done for a minute.

Is your VRS ill or just in for a check up?

So, Any tips on getting max mpg from a 170 pd vrs?

I'm getting mid 60s in my 1.6tdi Greenline Est after about 6k miles on a 37mile slow motorway commute (m6 - m62). OBC is about 2mpg out (higher).

I think you will find that the estate is slightly heavier

I think you will find that the estate is slightly heavier

The Ibiza estate 1.6 CR TDi is 275kg lighter than the 2007 VRS 2.0 PD TDi hatchback according to their respective specs published.

Hopefully my octi vrs will get better then as only getting around 48mpg & used to get that from my 53 Toledo with a 130 pd lump

Mine started out at 49mpg on good long runs but now I can get 56mpg if I want to try and work for it but 53 more the normal it is remapped though and only has just over 5000 miles need to get used a lot more tbh. Cold engine town runs sub 10 miles its sub 40mpg

I have mentioned here that my 2010 Octavia Break non greenline is getting average 6.0liter/100km.

Now, where I live we donnot get negative temp., today was 18ºc and at night it may go to 6/7ºc.

I have mates that get 5.0liter and some ( on VW golfs) that get 7.0liter.

So no it´s not as economic as the 1.9 in normal driving.

:giggle:

I don't doubt for one minute that the driver has a lot to do with varying fuel consumption, very true.

My daily commute costs me £15/day in diesel so I monitor my driving a lot, I anticipate the traffic ahead and curse myself for unnecessary braking :giggle:

At 60mph my PD vRS will stretch to mid to late 50's, but agreed this isn't normal driving and I soon find my speed creeping up to 70-75mph which is where my 51-53 average mpg comes from.

For a fair test I drove the Ibiza at the same speeds (still my own fuel) so I was as surprised as you when the display never exceeded 51mpg. It has 9K on it so maybe it's not run in yet?

My vRS is poorly (see 'Gritty Oil' thread) so was driving the Ibiza as best I could to monitor potential fuel savings if I decided to chop the vRS in.

Sniff!

Fubar, my Motorway "run" starts on the dual carrigeway between Ballymoney & Ballymena, and continues through on dual to Antrim before joining the M2, then down in to Belfast.

So Motorway speed limits apply throughout

PS

Since you described me as "Young Diesel dogg", I will forgive you for your somewhat pedantic query there Fubar. :giggle:

Marcus

Ps

Did you realize the advantage of early on-set Alzimers was waking up with a fresh woman every morning.

Saw 56mpg on the dash this morning, it seems to be getting better, hopefully by the end of the week I'll crack 60mpg!

I wonder if the dealer will do a straight swap on my 2007 vRS for their 2011 Ibiza :giggle:

I saw one for the first time today on the road (Ibiza estate) its massive! I do like its shape over the Mk2 Fabia tbh.

Yeah, this one is the sport too so gets the tinted glass and bigger alloys, I really like it in white.

The boot is ample but (unsurprisingly) it's a little tight upfront :giggle:
