help with rear brakes

Featured Replies

just took off the rear left pad carrier to paint them, i only took off left not right. put it back together and drove it and there is a noise when you touch the brakes now, its like you can hear the pads slowing the car down. have i missed something? what could have caused this? pads not in fully or the metal plate that fell off the back of the pad (wouldnt have thought so)

bit of crap between the pad and disc maybe

maybe. its raining just now so will have to wait till it stops. i take it its not to do with overtightening the carrier bolts?

Bent pad shim plate.

nah the shims wernt removed. i just quickly nipped out wheel off. undid 2 carrier bolts, pulled it out, pads off, checked and wiped. back into place, and pushed tight to make sure the located 100% carrier back on, 2 bolts in and wheel on, havnt tested it yet just out the runway it seemed ok, but i dno, it is all together correctly only part missing is the backing plate that came off the pad that goes against the piston bit. but that wont matter will it?

Did you wind the brake caliper piston back in at all before you refitted the pads? If not then I'd suggest that it must have been hard work getting the caliper back on at best, and it may mean the pad is not parallel with the brake disc and is rubbing on one side/edge.
