VRS - alloys not fit for purpose?

This wheel has been resprayed.

lol, what makes you say that? you got a part time job in the factory!? :wonder:

Knowing people that have tried to claim for similar with Skoda, it's a very difficult and drawn-out process. And one of the owners had wheels that were immaculately clean.

He did get a resolution eventually, but Skoda still refused to accept that the finishing on the wheels was sub-standard or that there was a problem.

So good luck trying, but as mentioned above, it would be advisable to clean them properly before starting proceedings with your local dealer.

Yeah, mine was a small bubble without any sign of a crack in the lacquer and look at the lengths I had to go to to get a replacement.

Mine too.

The other thing they have is lots of layers, the Skoda dealership said that I had them resprayed!!

Still fighting with them.

i had my front two alloys replaced on my 11plate fabia no questions asked.

Well, unless the wheel has collapsed, then they are "fit for purpose", as they were intended to be a wheel, and a wheel should be round, allow tyres to be fitted, and support the weight of the car - all of which they do...

The correct term from the Sale of Goods Act, is that they are "not of satisfactory quality"

:)

Has somebody used wheel acid on those in the past?

I think you are going to have a long battle trying to get those replaced.

Might just be cheaper and easier in th long run to spend £100 and get them blasted down and powder coated.

Phil

There's a lot of Tar spots on those wheels, I can't really see anything to suggest they should be replaced by a Dealer.... If they had cracked or corroded like the BBS wheels did on the 25th Anni Golf's I would agree but they just look properly dirty to me with a couple of stone chips unfortunately.

Nice one. As they say on Grease "tell me more, tell me more - did they put up a fight??"!!!!

You jammy dodger. Nice one!

Fair play - think you were damn lucky though.

Can I suggest you invest in some Bilberry, a pump sprayer and some Poorboys Wheel Wax and clean them between tyre changes :-)

Nice result. Glad they sorted it for you :)

Nice result.

So how have you protected these ones then? :)

Did it really take 8 months?

Steve

I had alloys replaced by subaru without even asking for it. Not sure how generous skoda dealers are yet as my car is too new. I suspect you will have a battle. At £60 for a refurb i wouldnt sweat it TBH. Alloys are so soft and vulnerable i just forget about them and would tidy them up at resale tme if they needed it. No sense getting stressed over a set of wheels. If you clean them meticulously week after week then get a small scuff on them due to 1 wee mistake then all the cleaning was pointless. They are there to allow your car to function and no more. As long as your wheels still turn then they are fine, unless of course you make a living showing your car.

Kwik fit wrecked two of my BMW wheels when fitting tyres. I complained straight away and they agreed to replace them but gave me the number of a guy who refurbs alloys to try first. This guy actually does work refurbing wheels for BMW so i went to show him the wheels while he was working for BMW at the BMW dealers. He looked at them and said that my alloys could not be refurbed due to a special coating on them. He saif a lot of M-Sports had this. I obvioulsy asked then why was he refurbing traded in cars wheels for BMW. He went silent and didnt say any more. Seems that BMW are happy to sell you a 2nd hand car probably with warranty left on it but with refurbed alloys which i bet they wouldnt tell you about if you bought one from them. Try getting those wheels changed under warranty later on. No chance.

In the end i got brand new ones from BMW and Kwik fit paid for them. Bottom line - dont trust dealers.

Try your luck mate but i would definately lie to them and say you clean them every day using only the finest wax and oils available, but be prepared for disapointment.
