1.6 GLXI Remapped?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have a Octy 1 GLxI 1.6, i am planning on doing some light tuning on it and was wondering if anyone has had the same model and remapped it? or if there is any mods or tuning i can do to make it abit more better an quicker? more acceleration than top end

I would look at modifying your air box with a wider cold air feed, maybe fit an uprated panel filter, cat back exhaust and replace the cat with a decat pipe (if you know a friendly MOT tester), those things should give you a bit of an improvement and not cost a fortune. It's not as easy as a turbo petrol or diesel where you can just spend £300 and get 30bhp out of a remap.

I'm pretty sure you can have the engine map changed on a N/A car but you won't see the sort of bhp gain you might expect for the money it costs. You could go down the road of performance cams or throttle bodies or even forced induction but at that point it would be more cost effective to sell the 1.6 and buy a 1.9 TDI or 1.8T instead.

I must admit i would like a 1.8T vRS Maybe next year, this is my first car so insurance aint cheap and i ave a baby on the way along with saving for a house so at £470 my Octavia was an absolute bargain and it has a full service history with all receipts ect 70k on the clock and not a spot of rust anywhere i couldn't say no. but hopefully next year when the insurance is cheaper money is abit better i shall get my vRS with that sexy black leather interior!! I just thought while i have this i could play with it abit

£470 thats a bargain! Yeah I would say just mod the airbox and exhaust system then. But even these mods might put the insurance up though.

Here's a remap for the same engine as yours but in a Golf - £199 for a 12bhp gain, so a bit dear really:
