Druming Noise

Featured Replies

I am the owner of a 2006 Skoda Octavia 1.9Tdi PD and really love the car. One thing though that is driving me crazy is the loud drumming/thumping/clonking noise from the NSF I experience when doing 30mph+ around long sweeping right hand turns (such as on big roundabouts). The noise matches the rotation of the NSF wheel and so the faster I go around the corner, the quicker the drumming/thumping noise sounds. I have had the car into a Skoda dealership twice and a friends garage twice - and each time I was told they could not replicate the problem. They said that they checked everything and all linkages, CV joints etc were OK. I have had this problem for over a year now and wondered if any other members have experienced this - or if anyone had any ideas!

Almost definitely wheel bearing. If it gets worse when turning right, it's probably the drivers side (which is counter-intuitive, but it was on my old Leon).

You won't reproduce the problem with the "wheel rock" test, as there's still basically no movement. The way my mechanic reproduced it was jack the front end and spin the wheels as fast as he could by hand, and lo and behold the drivers' side started humming.

if the wheel bearing genuinely is ok, it'll probably be scalloping on the tyres - google it
